Lemon?
Thumper...thats great news for you man. Me , on the other hand.. I called the dealer today and they have no answer for me. The truck is just sitting in the back of the yard getting dirty because they have no friggen idea how to fix it.
Im done..I told them im coming to get it friday fixed or not (most likely not) so make sure its in one piece. I know I said before not to get discouraged and drop the F150, but Im thinking I may just do that and get a new Mustang GT..We'll see what happens.

Thats RAV Thumper. It stands for Reacquired vehicle...Fords term for a buyback unit. Thats how I got my 05 Lariat when they bought back my 04 Lariat which had EVERY single problem you've listed. Good luck and hope you stay with Ford.

So who knows...
I'm glad to hear you be probably getting another ford Thumper. I have liked mine so much and it has been so trouble free considering the 23k miles I've put on since January. I think your next one will be just what you wanted in the first place. I have a suggestion though, go with Dark STone Metallic,

And erick I was told that they crush them if the problems are bad enough to where they don't want the liability of re-selling it. Was told mine would be crushed...I was sad. But a couple of months later I ran an oasis on my old truck and it had been sold out of state with a factory RAV extra warranty put on it!

My latest update.. Got a call FINALLY today and he told me the truck was ready, rather will be ready for me to pick up tomorrow night. He said after the ring and pinion was replaced (again) in the rear, all the whine and shudder has gone away. He also told me for the last week that he had to get it to a tire shop to road force the tires. So I ask him about the vibe in the steering wheel. Oh yeh thats all gone now to he says. So I said did you road force them.."no, we just balanced them here again" he said. So Im not to confident thats going to be fixed when I get up there this weekend. I mean he balanced my old tires 3 times, then put brand new ones on and now, have balanced them 2 times. Then he says, do you know one of your exhaust pipes is bent ( long story, I'll tell you another time) so I told him I knew about it and I have the new parts to fix it, why do you ask? I said. So he says well I think thats causign some of the howling you are getting from the rear. WTF..I thought he just said it was fixed and it didnt howl or whine any more. So anyway, im headed up tomorrow after work to pick it up. Hes gonna have all my service records fo rme so if its not fixed I can just go ahead and submit my paperwork to the BBB Autoline. I'll let you guys and gals know how it goes this weekend.

(Carfax WILL find out) as a Ford unit, your unit never goes far, it will goto one of the dealer auctions in the local area then sold to a dealer then to some Joe Blow that has NO clue ends up with it, and gets screwed. I had a Ford buy back some time ago. I called and emailed CarFax about this they could care less I NEVER got a reply. I think the Government should look into the CarFax and Ford relationship.
CARFAX searched more than 3 billion records from over 5,300 sources and found 6 record(s) for this 2003 FORD EXPLORER XLT/XLT SPT/NBX

Well I just got a call from my brother. He took my truck home tonight to see if its finally fixed. He said the rear (new ring and pinion) feels so much better than it ever did and there is absolutely no whining at any speed. He also said that the steering wheel vibe seems to be gone. He got to 70 mph and let go of the wheel and he said it didnt vibe, and it tracked straight as an arrow.
Hes taking it to work in the morning and going on some different roads than he did tonight. Said he actually beat it up a little on some bumpy back roads to see how it would hold up. So mostly highway driving in the am and he'll give me another report.
Right now I have mixed emotions. Last time he called me after is was supposed to be fixed, he said it was worse than ever. The time before that, he didnt drive it before I did,so there was no report before I picked it up. It was fine that time for about 150 miles and all the whines and vibes came back. So I guess the real test will be monday, after a weekend of driving around and towing stuff, I will be headed home on a long 4.5 hour, all highway drive. I really hope this is the end of it. Im having a hard time realizing that I may have to get rid of my "Blazing Yellow", and that would just suck. Wish me luck. I'm dying to put my leveling kit on thats been sitting here on my floor for about 2 months now,m and move forward to my new wheels and tires and some new shocks, and,,and ,,,and,,,,,

good luck on your truck, thumper, but did I read your birthday right? I think you're only 16 yrs old---just kind of cracked me up with the Ford man all your life and everything and all of your vehicle travels so far when you haven't been driving even a year yet-----
just buggin' with ya

what about earlier models??? With the newer vehicles everyone should expect bugs and cinks that need to be worked out. But what about earlier models and what kind of mileage they have? Or what kind of mechanical problems they have? For the consumers who buy used or to build a better case on which vehicle brand lasts longer/better.
