Have you been in the back seat of your Ford lately??

Well until 2 days a go I loved my truck in every aspect but a 700km road trip changed my opinion. I have a 2004 F-150 Scab FX4. I drove for most of the trip which was fine, drivers seat comfortable but just uncomfortable enough to make you not want to fall asleep is the best way I can describe it. After driving for 4 hours I just couldn't go any more so I got my wife to drive and I took the back seat where she was because there were other sleeping people in the cab. I am a fairly big guy 6'3" and 245lbs and if I would have known how uncomfortable that back seat was I don't think I ever would have bought my truck. I got coments from passengers before about it not being comforable but I didn't really thinkk anything of it because I was always driving. So I lasted about an hour and a half in the back seat and I was on the verge of flipping out because I was tired, so I forced myself to stay awake and drive so I wouldn't have to sit in the back again. For small kids the seat would be fine but for a adult I don't recomend any long trips. Just my opinion. I made pretty good mileage on the trip though 19.2mpg at 115km/hr. The K&N filter I put in makes a big difference, the truck even seems to shift about 150rpms higher at WOT.

Well at least your mileage was something positive ... Can't comment on the back seat issue, I bought a reg. cab so I wouldn't have one ...
Though my buddy says the same thing, that passengers riding in the back of his are uncomfortable ...

I haven't been in the back CAUSE I DON"T FIT! My seat spends more time folded up than anything else. I have a friend with an early 2000 body-style, and his SCAB bench seemed much bigger than mine (by my recollection, anyway). I guess that's why SCREWS are so popular now, reasonable back seat with a reasonable bed. I just prefer the look of a SCAB.

SCabs are not good for adults and long road trips. Young kids and shorter trips more likely. If you want to sit in the back seat, and you are an adult, get a SCrew!

the SCab is only temporary seating. Its not meant for long drives. If you take rear passengers regularly, you need a crewcab, SUV or a car.

Before i bought my Scab, i checked out everything including the back seat. I needed the longer bed more than i needed to carry extra people so bought it based on that. If we (or I) need to take a long trip with the kids or other people i take the wifes Explorer.

No doubt its uncomfy back there. When we load up the atvs for an out of state ride we take my truck and 5 of us ride it, no one complains because I haul their atvs and pay for the gas...but you can tell they don't like that back seat.

Definitely why the Supercrew is such a popular configuration for the F-150. Many people prefer the extra leg room as opposed to the extra bed room.

I've got a SCREW and it is still somewhat uncomfortable for long hauls...the backs are too straight....

Looking at the seat lifter to see if that helps.

The back seats in the SCAB and the SCREW are the same. The only difference is in the amount of leg room.

..

I don't want to be made fun of and run out of the forum like that toyota guy for saying something against the grain, but I think the back seat is fine.

I recently drove 1600 miles, and half of that was with a trailer and parents in tow. My folks kept fighting over the back seat! My step father wouldn't give up the back seat, going on and on about how comfortable it was... My mother preferred the front seat but she just had to try it since he was raving about it so much.

I personally have sat back there, I don't mind it. I love the drivers seat (a perfect fit for me) - I have sat in much worse and think that if I wanted the luxury of a Mercedes - I would have bought one - I think my truck is Just Fine IMHO
