Airforce One noise level? (Pics 56K warning!)

Was anyone else surprised by the obnoxious sound of the Airforce One? I've read through various posts about filter placement with respect to noise levels but I haven't found that "sweet" spot yet. I also don't have access to a pipe extender as suggested in a previous thread. I have attached some pics to this post in hopes that someone will have some suggestions to quiet this beast down. Thanks.

I put the filter to the very edge of the end of the pipe and it quited down quite a bit, but i thought the noise was kinda kool.

What kind of noise are you getting with the AF1? Any issues with the install? It looks like everything lined up okay. I'm still on the edge about getting one of these until I see some longer term reports on them.

It looks great though!

I don't really know how to describe the noise. It's just annoying. I sounds like blowing over a bottle, kinda like a low toned whistle. Pretty sure it is the air entering the filter, then passing throught the opening of the stainless tube. I have everything very tight, thought I still get some rattle during idle.

Install was a breeze, and I am by no means mechanical.

jdant:
The horsepower and torque gains are noticeable. Though I'm no dyno.

I was suprised by the noise level but I adjusted it out to the end of the tube and It seems to be less. at normal driveing it is not too bad hardly noticeable. but I punch the gas and it abruptely changes form quiet to quit loud. it even startles me sometimes. I find myself easing into the gas more rather than punching it to avoid the sound. maybe this intake will help my gas milage after all. oh and I have had no cel issues so far and got over 100 miles on the intake so far. and dozens of drive cycles.

I know it sounds stupid but, did you try shoving that filter the other way? My filter sits very close to the opening of the heat sheild and I have no "whistle", its silent.

Just my 3 cents

Yeah, under normal driving I forget that it's even installed. But once you get on it, it sure starts to yell.

Ragged05FX4:
I've tried what you suggested. The noise was worse when I had the filter closer to the shield.

The only time mine sounds off is when I get on it; so it’s not a problem

No, not at all it’s been trouble free from day one. I did have a couple issues on the install though.

I did. I've had to tighten the hex head down a couple of times. After the second time, a drop of antiseize was added.
