"Crash data memory full." The RCM has stored information from when the truck was hit and the driver's airbag deployed. The safing sensor inside the module was closed when it received information from the front crash severity sensor when the truck was hit, and it determined that the strike was hard enough that an airbag needed to be deployed. You need to replace the RCM.

Edited to add: And if it was hit hard enough to deploy an airbag, assuming the driver was wearing a seatbelt, you may need new seat belt pretensioners. You also need to replace the clockspring if the driver's airbag deployed. Replace the RCM and clear all DTCs before anything else though.

Quintin, Is the RCM the module that stores all the tattletale stuff the insurance people want after a crash? Can it be disconnected and still have the vehicle operate properly?

The only thing it really stores is that the crash severity sensor was closed, an airbag(s) deployed, whether or not there was someone in the passenger's seat and whether or not the occupants (front) had their seat belts on. The insurance jobs I've done, no company ever asked for the RCM to test with or extract info or whatever. And no, there's no way to disable it, without the RCM, the airbags will not work.

I understood that information including vehicle speed, angle of steering wheels, amount of braking applied, seatbelt usage, and more is stored within a ten second window and that upon deployment of the air bag, this info is kept so that the last ten seconds of operation can be analyzed. In Connecticut, the police may, and will, remove the offending device. In a GM car, it is a separate device located under the passenger front seat. I know there are law suits claiming self incrimination and so on. The operator's manual for my truck mentions that this information is being kept, and I would like to know where and what I can do to eliminate it.

I have considered a device that would tie into the triggering line of the air bag, and power the whole computer system with a momentary voltage of around 2000v. Cheaper a new computer than a law suit!

I am though, in hopes of a less drastic solution.

Quintin, would all the same apply to my03 when replacing deployed airbags, and is the RCM also under the front seat? Thanks for your help.
