Projector Options for a 2005 F150 HID Retrofit

So this is a question for HIDPlanet and anyone else with HID experience and projectors. As many know I'm working on a HID retrofit for the 2005 F150 and am pretty confident in my final look. A set of Harley Davidson Headlamps with a large (3 inch) bi-xeon projector retrofited into the stock 7 inch halogen reflector.

I was orginally thinking about using some RS6's b/c they are bi-xeon and 3 inches until I saw a picture of their output. Another downside is I can only find the projectors, bulbs, and ballasts for $435 on ebay. It looks like the E55 has the best combination of bi-xeon cutoff and light output. Or am I missing something here?

Then I saw the output of the LS430 projector and fell in love...but it's not bi-xeon so that sucks.

So would I be better off going with some 3 inch bi-xeon E55s due to cost and output? I just want some 3 inch b-xeon projectors that have the best average of output, cutoff and beam spread...not to mention cheaper than $400 total. Any hints or help on this one?

The projectors do not look good in my opinion and make the truck look a little too Honda Civic in my opinion. I want something that will look relatively stock and classy while providing great performance. The actual projectors that are in the projectors that are sold are halogen type projectors and do not do too great with HID bulbs.

And where can you get these? Are you refering to rebased D2R bulbs to fit the H13 bulb platform?

I saw them on ebay for around $280/including s/h. I emailed the seller about the bulb design. He said it is based on H13/9008 unit, simple plug and play. The unit is made by Mcullogh (one of the mainstream brand on HID) @ 5000k, output of 3200 lumens. I am planning on getting one once I get paid for my overtime @ work.

Just pick the beam pattern you like and just go for it. I would say to pick up a used or broken headlight to paly with first so you can figure out what you be doing.

Trust me if I can jam in 2 BMW M3 bi-xeon's into a Honda CBR then you will be able to get them into your truck.

Good Luck

Do a search here or at HIDForum.com and you will see that the Mcullogh brad is not good at all. Also, if you are looking for the brightest and whitest light then 5000K isn't the way to go. All OEM HIDs are 4300K (or most all). 5000K should not shed as much light but be a little bluer. After all the "I bought Mcullogh and it's not working anymore" posts I've read, I decided that would be a company to stay away from. They've also had a cease and decist order by the DOT on importing HID kits...so it would be illegal to put it on your truck and you could get ticketed for it.

I'm going to order some cheap stock headlights and retrofit bi-xeon RS6 projectors into the halogen headlamp. I really want to use LS projectors since their output is surreal but they are not bi-xeon. Then I'll cut out a black template and see if it looks better looking like the Harley Davidson lights, if so they'll get painted, if not they'll stay stock. Then I'm going to use a mirror or chrome material to create a shroud that will go from the edge of the projector to the edge of the halogen reflector.
