Performance parts mostly gone! So is the F150!

Hello all, it’s been fun and all! My attempt to make the F150 do what I needed was both a success and a failure!

Last couple pulls have shown some degradation of TQ lockup while pulling. The scangauge is great for monitoring load, throttle position and temps etc… I’ve kept pretty close tab on values over local hills and have enough data now to tell me I was just asking for blowing the tranny one of these days/pulls.

Bottom line … the performance additions were great! They helped make pulling more comfortable. For me the killer was the long slow off-road pulls up the side of mountains. The eFans did a wonderful job of keeping things cool while running slow for everything but the tranny … was real close to putting another fan there to help out … but I finally gave in and said ENOUGH!

So, now I’ve got a bunch of F150 parts to sell. And a new CTD w/HD6spd std to fix up.

The decision was quite simple … though I went out and drove all 3 makers or about 9 rigs … decided it needed to fit in the garage and I don’t think there’s an automatic transmission made that is fit for yanking a load slowly up the places I go. All the new std trannys pretty much suck IMO with the new Luk DMF they are ALL using now … the old proven NV5600 was still available with the CTD in place of the new G56 and I didn’t want to test luck with Luk or take the chance with the tranny that has been on stop shipment for several months during its introduction recently. The DMF does make things noticeably smoother though!

Length to fit in the garage and I don't like the reverse doors on the supercab ... ya, that extra 7 inches over the F150 with the PSD was just too much to comfortably walk by the front of the truck when parked ... Tried it! I did like it otherwise ... but couldn't find one with a std tranny at any of the local area dealers with the things I wanted.

Yeah, man I know what you mean. I've owned my last truck with "suicide doors" Every truck I've ever been in with them rattle on a gravel road. All the auto makers make better diesel trucks than 15 years ago, that's for sure. That Cummins will probably pull the house down. It's just hard to beat a 'stroke to me that's all...wish I had one.

Check out his link, a 7100 lb toy hauler.
Lots of work for a half ton crew with a camper.

All I can say is wow! ... I came home to a bunch of interest in parts! ...

So, I put a quick list on "My Web" link in my signature for my dear departed F150.

I didn't really think about anybody responding to the comment ... as I just basically figured I'd pop them out on eBay ... I do pretty good there with stuff ...

I gotta tell ya all ... that I really like the F150! Didn't have the trailer, or any plans for one when it was purchased. I'm a bit bull headed and I tried some stuff ... it was fun ... but I don't like going slow on the larger hills and pushing a vehicle to its limit every time I head out with the toys is a bit silly. Would have been fine other than I go up roads that require 4x4 just to yank the load up or through and certainly low range 1st and 2nd on the way back down to keep from frying the brakes. From what I've gathered there really aren't any auto's that are very good for this type of use.

My combined weight was around 14klb or pretty much max on all accounts and frankly that's just a bit much to yank around on a regular basis. But it was fun to do quite nicely for awhile. If you’re going to pull much weight I highly recommend some better gauges! Watch them and keep a log of all the readings especially on hills from bottom to top etc…

Tycreek,

Was it my imagination or did the price of the AF1 go from up in the last five minutes. I think a lot of guys have read how you modified it.

Not your imagination ... I just threw some quick rough prices out there ... that one I adjusted some ... as it's probably one of the best AF1's you could buy. It's much better than new and still considerably less. It's how they should come delivered in the first place!

I have zero doubt that I could get more from eBay! Really was trying to be generous to those of you here ... as selling these in this forum was NOT my intent.

BTW I still have the C.A.R.B. sticker ... still waiting to get stuck on.
