Finally another person with that same issue as me.... I have been fooling around trying to find that sweet spot on the end of the intake tube too with no luck.....

Let me know if you find out how to quite this thing down.... man it is loud!

ok I went out and adjusted it again tonight. the other day I roughed the end of the tube up with a dremmel with a sanding drum attachment. then tonight I took some soapy water and cleaned the rubber and the end of the tube real well. I could tell that helped alot as I could barely get the rubber to slide back on the tube it was stickin to it so well. I mounted it about 1/8 inch closer to the end of the tube from where I had it before. and clamped it down I didn't try to tighten it so much this time. I also lowered the filter because the other day it was hitting my hood and I thought it might be vibrating against my hood. took it out for a test drive and I would say it is 15 to 20 percent quieter. mostely when I lay into the gas. when normal driveing it is hardely noticable now about the same as my magnaflow exhaust. but punch the gas and it is considerably louder probably not twice as loud but definitely one and a half times as loud. I think it is not loud enough to bother me as I have my radio on most of the time anyhow. I guess time will tell.

Maybe the new tube design (second generation) has already been through R&D. Since it took them over a year to get to market, it’s quite possible that tube design has already been tested. The new tube design (second generation) is similar to the shape of the Airaid with its 90° bend in the center of the tube. I kind of think they were going for the biggest hp & torque gain they could possible make and still be safe, and that’s the first generation tube, the one that hit the street first. They probably did the R&D on a half dozen trucks at the most, and didn’t anticipate the sensitivity of the dozens and dozens of different PCM codes Ford has. When the CEL problem cropped up, maybe they fell back on plan B.

Just a thought

Just curious - has AF1 positively confirmed there is a new tube design?? Could they have mistakenly sent a tube for another application out and that is what we are all talking about? I just got mine recently and it is the same as most of the pics I've seen posted (with the exception of the one that started this post)?? If there is a new design out that is better - then I'm wondering why I didn't get it? AF1 is so backed up with orders right now - it's hard to imagine they are changing the product midstream......

Also, for the record - I just drove 240 freeway miles today and "tested" the AF1 out and it does add extra "pep" (call it torque or hp) that you can feel, and I did hit WOT on several occaisons with NO CEL yet! As far as the noise - it is no louder than the CAI on my '05 Mustang or the CAI I had on my Lincoln LS V8 Sport. It is loud when you hit WOT, but the slight increase in noise during normal driving is typical of a CAI and nothing that bothers me...my Magnaflow SIDO (rear exit) system is still the predominate sound - unless I'm at WOT - then the combo is music to the ears!! I did mount the filter as far out on the end of the as possible so perhaps that's why I'm not hearing it loud during normal driving....

See my previous post in this thread, it answers your questions.

Not sure why the "new tube shouldn't have been put out till its dynoed" is relevant. AF1 is trying to fix a problem with there product to deal with the CEL issue on SOME trucks. Mine happens to be SOME. I am just glad that they are trying to fix the issue, and at no charge to me.

BTW all ... I flared it with a pipe expander that you can usually rent for free from you local parts store ...

Made the expander bars taper with a couple washers on one end with a bolt as a stop for the spreader bars and smacked it with a hammer a few times while rotating between each hit ... worked great! ->O

I must have gotten one of the 1st generation tubes. Mine comes back at an angle (not straight out from the air assembly) and bends to the filter. I haven't gotten around to trying to move the filter out towards the end of the tube. I have mine pretty much as close to the shield as it can get. It does make a deep bottle sound when I get on it and is barely noticable at cruising speeds. I do however really notice the power and extra torque. Pressing on the accelerator feels like butter now when building up speed. Before it always felt like I had to strain to get this beast going. I may have to try that trick to see if it quiets it down a little but now I'm just to busy enjoying the sound and noticable power increase.
