I am not sure it is as differant as it looks in the pics. I think it might be the angle of the pics. if you look at the wires to the alternator they are in the same spot on the bend in the tube. I think jpdadeo's pic is more above and to the right, and a little closer up. I think changeing that angle changes the look. but the breather tube is definitely different.

It’s obviously a different tube configuration but why put the breather hose on the bottom

your right its definitely a differant tube design. I am not sure if they just reversed it or lengthened it or both. the only reason I can think of them putting the breather tube is for appearance purposes. I think I will email troyer and see if there was a design change and if so if it changed the performance numbers. it is possable I got the wrong intake.

Maybe it was messing up the MAF function or fouling it with crankcase vapors???

it will be interesting to see if new ones comming out look the same as mine or jpdadeo's. if they look like mine it means there was a design change. if not it probably means I got the wrong tube. I did email troyer to see if they new anything about it. I guess I will know tomorrow.

Maybe a change was made for the ones giving a CEL? Perhaps many more than the ones here were experiencing the problem so they made a change in the tube??

That would be my only guess.

jason,

I just got my AF1 (2004 F150, FX4, 5.4L) last week (through Troyer's, but drop-shipped from AF1 directly) and mine looks exactly like jpdadeo's. If you just received your AF1, and there was a design change, then I got the old version. Otherwise, your's looks different - both the curvature of the tube and the location of the breather (which, honestly I can't even see in the photos of your setup).

Something is weird, but I am sure Troyer will get it figured out (and corrected, if need be) for you.

That AF1 DOES sound good with the Magnaflow exhaust.

I’ve been browsing the Ford intake kits pics on Troyer’s web page and there is nothing with a similar configuration to the one you got jasonkola, so I don’t think it’s the wrong one they sent you. I’m leaning toward the “second generation” thing myself.

You know you give Airforce One a call directly and get the skinny straight from the horses mouth. They’re on California time.
The toll free phone number is 1-888-788-4648

I called them and spoke to Evert, the tech guy, when I first got my AF1; I had a couple of questions about the install.

Mine also comes out like the pic on the top, the tube starts a sharp angle towards the corner of the engine bay directly coming out of the top of the intake.

I just got home from work and got my emails. troyer says that there was a recent design change to address the lean condition alot of people have been haveing. so it was a design change and I must have got one of the first ones out. I just hope I am not getting less a horsepower increase than those of you with the old style. this new model should be tested for acurate HP gain claims.

They are different, and AF1 has changed the tube to take care of the dreaded CEL issues. The new tube is supposed to fix the problem. I have an early 9/03 build date. Mine is supposed to be shipped this week to correct the problem that I have had with the CEL.

Plus the AF1 logo would be reading backwards as well....my breather tube was on the side and all fit ver well. There is a difference in those two pic though.....did the tube line up OK in the AF1 "Airbox" OK with both configurations? Strange indeed!!

I just received the newer designed AF 1 as well, it looks like Jasonkola's model. No cel's thrown with about twenty five miles driven....with that seat of your pants difference.
