help me pick my tires....

I'm looking to up my tire size. I have stock FX4 17" wheels. I have the autospring 2" kit on the truck. I am pretty sure that I can put a 33" tire on there. But I don't want a 12.5" wide tire. Isn't that a little to wide for my 7" wide rims? I realize that it will physically work, but I am afraid of it being too much and causing issues with the rim moving in the tire, when I take a hard turn.

My other thing is I want a good and aggressive tire, but something that will last quite a long time. I've had Super Swamper TSR's in the past, and they lasted about 10k. I would like something that will go abit longer.

I really like the look of the Toyo Open Country M/T's but can't find anything on the tread life.

is there any reason to have a concern about the 12.5" on a 7" rim? To me that just sounds like the sidewalls are coming in way too much. On my 96 bronco I had 15x10 rimms, with 33x12.5 TSR super swampers. That seemed ok to me. But for some reason a 12.5 on a 7 doesn't sound to good to me.

According to Toyo's website, they don't have the open country in a 33X12.50-17...they do have it in an 18"

Everything with a 12.50" wide tire recommends a 8-8.5 inch wide wheel.
I'd be most concerned with the narrow rim causing the tread to bulge out...no flat tread, it'd look more like a motorcycle tire.

The OEM wheels are 7.5 inches wide.

I'll probably end up getting new rims. I was just hoping to keep costs down. I'll probably go with a 18x9 or so. I think I really want the the Toyo's, but I haven't seen enough reviews yet as to how good the tread life is.

Not sure about tread life, but Toyo's are one of the best "balanced" off road tires you can get. At least that is what my research on them has determined.

I had some toyo proxies on my old mustang. I loved them. Only problem was they didn't last to long. Though I don't plan on smoking the tires on the truck

May not be exactly what your looking for but I really like the nitto terra grapplers. They make a 33" for 17" wheel, but I'm pretty sure there close to 12.5" wide.

You're probably not going to find a tire that wears any faster than a Super Swamper, so just about any less aggressive off-road tire should net you better tread life.

I replaced the cheapo Generals that were on my Auto Spring leveled '04 Screw 4x4 with Goodrich Rugged Trails in the 285/70/17's and they fit very
nicely on the stock 17' x 7.5" rims. They are listed as being 33"x 11.50" but measure a lot closer to 32.75" tall. The ride is noticeably better and they fill the wheel wells a little more than the stock Generals. I find them to be very aggressive off road, and relatively quiet on the highway. Just my $.02...

I really think you'll be okay with some 12.50s on the 7.5" stock rim. I've seen people put the 13.50s on the stock rim and use them and drive them hard, with no problems. Sure they might wear a little un-even but I don't think you'd have any problems with the 12.50s.
