The as-built data gets programmed with the cluster in the truck.

The truck will start with a new, unprogrammed cluster. The lariat comes programmed for a lariat. From my experience, everything worked great except for the A/C. After programmed, everything worked perfect. Remember though, they can't program the mileage there, just the as-built data.

My thoughts on making an XLT look like a Lariat...I was going try this along with making the bumpers monotone, adding fender flares, seat covers, and wheels but it would be alot easier and probably not that much more $$$ just to trade in my XLT. But I probably won't do either one. I need the long bed and since the Lariat and King Ranch are not available in a long bed, and the new F150's and F250's are coming out with major changes in the next couple years, I will just keep my XLT as is and not dump anymore money into it.

How long of a bed do you need? When I bought my new lariat, I looked at the 6.5' bed, but still opted for the 5.5' bed. (both were supercrew) If you are going to buy, right now is the time. 0% financing plus rebates is a great deal, I got my lariat for the same payment as my xlt. That was much easier than all of the mods I wanted to do to the truck.

I totally agree. That's why I stopped modding mine. I need the 8' (supercab) for hauling. I have not seen the 6.5' crew cab in person. It may be too small for me, but could be a possibility if I get a Haulmark trailer. I have to think on this some more...

I have an stx and would love those features. Did you xlt already have a message center or did you just add the pins to the computer harness and it accesed those features. And did they reprogram the odometer to your milage.

So, Need to take the Lariat cluster to ford to have them send it off to have the milage programmed, get it back and install it. Then go back to ford to have the "As-built data" loaded into the cluster. XLT "as-built" loaded into the Lariat cluster. Correct?

Just trying to get everything in order. I know my local dealership can do it, just need to kinda walk them through it a little.

Correct. Then buy the message center switch and install it if you want to ability to check your mpg, miles to empty, and other things.

I don't think you can put an F150 cluster in an F250. I don't think they are the same, but I could be wrong, I have no idea what's in the 250.

need you help on cluster swap for my XLT
local dealer screwed up my cluster trying to down load my data out of my old cluster ( my oil gauge doesn't work now and imformation center doesn't work in my XLT cluster ) don't know what they did they said that to do this I would need both keys as this would reprogram everything
so after spending hours to have lariat cluster reprogramed had to leave with nothing did you have to have both keys? know going to have to wait for new XLT cluster from ford

I didn't have to have my keys.

We tried downloading the info from my old cluster, it wouldn't program to the lariat cluster correctly though. (but it didn't screw up my xlt cluster)

So after it wouldn't program with the XLT cluster data, we left the lariat cluster in my truck, checked the ford website for my as-built data, and plugged the computer back into my truck, programming using as-built data instead of the data from my old cluster, this was the only way we could get it to work. Despite what they tell you, it will work this way and if they messed up your old cluster, they should have to pay for it, not you. If they screwed it up that bad, it almost sounds like they don't know what they are doing, it might be worth it to take it to another dealership if there is one close.

Drive it down here (Salt Lake) if they can't figure it out, I know where you can take it to get it done right.

I will have to check on how long it will take them and if they can do it on a Saturday. You may have to bring both clusters to prove or do you have a way to prove the miles are identical between the two? That is the one difficult part. If the mileage doesn't match up identically (and it won't after you travel from there to here) they may not reprogram it. This is something they can't change themselves, it would have to be sent out to ford to have the mileage programmed.

I do the cluster upgrades all the time for the Mustangs to change from 4 gauge to the 6 gauge my color clusters and it is real simple. but the loom is already there, I order the cluster with known info ie: mileage, and get all cust info so it is programed and state on form doing cluster upgrade order the message center switch, install the cluster and the switch, hook wire up to switch and 50% of the time we dont even have to upload the "as-built" info. When we do have to, it is a very good idea to give us both sets of keys, just so you know both sets will work after the upgrade. I would like to get a few vin numbers from members so I can check the looms on trucks with Lariat or King Ranch and see if the looms are different part numbers(maybe all the pin stuff can be avoided) and to see what part numbers are being used for the clusters because this could turn out to be an easy upgrade also, like the Mustang. anyone want to send me then vin number?

Ed
