Troyer Performance

Howdy All -

I stated in an earlier post about how I had not heard anything back from Troyer Performance (Mike) after sending my dyno runs to him. I have since talked to Mike (he called me) and it seems that there was a genuine mis-communication on both ends regarding the e-mails that I sent him. Therefore, I apologize for misleading people that the service from Troyer Performance was not up to it’s typical high standards. He also enlightened me on what type of data is needed from me in order for him to look at a tune and decide if it does in fact need ‘tweaking’. Apparently, when I received the Xcalibrator, there were instructions about data logging which I didn’t read. I didn’t read it because I thought at the time that I would never data log. Well, I now know that in order for Mike to review a tune, he needs not only the power curves and air/fuel ratio curves, but 12-14 other parameters (timing, temperature, etc) that better define why the power curves are doing what they are doing – he needs the data log. These parameters can be retrieved by different software that the Dyno shop has, or by data logging units that Troyer sells, including the Xcalibrator 2. When I sent Mike my dyno runs, I was asking if he thought something needed to be changed, but I wasn’t giving him the information he needed to give me an answer. I now know that I can take the Xcalibrator 2 (which I will upgrade to) to the Dyno shop, log all of the parameters that the Xcal 2 can log, along with the air/fuel and power curves from the dynometer, then I will send this data to Mike so he can ‘tweak’ my personal tunes. I don’t want to give the impression that I am unhappy with anything, quite the contrary, I’m just interested in how these things work and how far can you actually go with them.

I’ve enjoyed upgrading my truck through Troyer and letting everyone see through the dyno runs that there is a tremendous difference with the tunes versus stock, and also helpful gains with the Arraid intake system and Magnaflow exhaust – just like he states day in and day out. I hope that people utilize those dyno runs as the ‘final’ piece of information needed to justify buying these upgrades from Troyer Performance.

P.S. all dyno runs are available in my gallery.

Nice post T2O... I had a similar experience with Mike as he spent copius amounts of time explaing and detailing questions that I had about my custom tune as well as other modifications that I'm running.

Troyer Performance is certainly a class act when it comes to aftermarket modification and tuning. I wouldn't trust my Ford Truck to any other company.... I don't care how many options are on the market...

Can I get an amen? Man this guy (Troyer) is good...just reading his stuff has gotten me thinking that this is quite the company. I'm an auditor and consultant for Deloitte and Touche and deal with corporations day in and out...never heard this much positive stuff about one company in my life. Once I've saved up, I'm definitely doing an AF1, Magnaflow SI/DO, and Xcal 2 through him. My customer service on my truck has been horrible to date and I look forward to working with a company that reads and practices purely great customer service! See ya soon Troyer!

i've had my blown mustang street tuned by Chris johnson at johnson motorsports (another tuning pioneer and sct genius) and he didnt need any datalogging for those parameters. I'm not sure how important these parameters are in a truck tune or how much difference adding them to the equation will make in the power output. maybe mike can elaborate but he is not tuning them to the razors edge. he has to have a safety factor included in the tune. i want a xcal2 tue but not if it is tuned so close to the edge that if i go up a steep incline that my truck detonates. do i need that info to get a great tune OR can i give him my processor code and get a safe powerful tune? mike, i know you want to lay some knowledge on my noggin. Is all of the datalogging info "important" on a multipurpose street truck?

I have not ordered any upgrade mods like the Xcal 2 or AF1, but intend to shortly. I am sure that for every bad post about Troyer, there are 250 good ones, but the upset tend to voice their opinions the loudest and most often.

Nominal gains can be found over any standard tune, as I have always found with older and newer vehicles, carb ones included. Ford tunes for the mass market, Troyer has a little more specialty and uses that to their advantage. They must know what they are doing, for their expense at preparing this product could not have been small by any means. Besides, I am looking for overall performance, not a weekend drag race vehicle.

Bottom line: Troyer has the confidence to come on here themselves, and other 150 forums rave about them also, even over their SV's...that means something to me. Although I do not care about parameters and such, they seem to have their data together. I am confident Troyer sells more on word of mouth than any other form of advertising, so they must intend on keeping customers happy.

Any tune you get from Troyer will be great, safe, and powerful. The tunes I have right now are just that. But if I am so inclined to spend some time and money on the dyno, record all of the parameters that a Tuner would typically look at and send the data back to the Tuner for his review, why not? Maybe he'll find something very specific to my truck that makes him adjust the tune accordingly. I would expect some minor efficiency changes in the tune after this, but I'll bet my 'butt dyno' won't notice any difference.

Great info guys and from what I've read on this forum Troyer appears to be a class act. I'm hesitant to purchase another SCT product though as several months ago I purchased an XCalibrator for my '05 Mustang and SCT didn't mention a word about the XCal II that was shortly to be released (I would have certainly waited for that!!) Then they said they would provide an "upgrade path" for us XCal I owners and I have yet to receive an answer from them as to what that means????

I'm wondering if Diablo makes a tune for our trucks and if Troyer Performance deals with Diablo or just SCT......on the '05' Mustang GT's the Diablo Predator appears to be much more user friendly and has adjustable parameters right off of the tuner - no need to purchase a PC cable and try to download SCT's "Extreme" tuning software from their website or have your tuner have to e-mail you each revised tune for the Xcalibrator......anyway - I will be purchasing a tuner with tune for this truck - just would like to steer away from SCT if possible.....

Mike already has an in-depth post in the “Chips & Programming” forum explaining the details of the Xcalibrator-2 trade-up program and when it will kick off. It’s been there for weeks

Mike’s the tune maestro

Diablo makes tunes for our trucks &
they're looking for customers too

I thought I was getting my AF1 this week but to my surprise, I only received the filter cleaning kit. At first, I thought somebody had stolen it off my front porch. The packing slip included with the cleaning kit showed that the AF1 intake had also been shipped.

I called TP this morning to look into this. They told me that the AF1 intakes are being drop shipped from AF1 directly and that they were told that 20 were sent out last week and I was on the list. However, they found that only 15 were shipped and I was one of the unfortunate ones that didn't make the list. The girl I talked to said she would check into when mine would ship and send me email. Lo and behold, an hour later I received an email from her and my intake kit was shipped today by AF1.

This is why I continue to buy from TP. They've always been very good at following up with me and are very courteous. TP rocks!
