Has anyone lifted their truck themself????

i was wondering if it has been done. i was thinking about doing it myself but was wondering about how to deal with the alignment and if there was any serious cutting involved.

depends on the kit most require no cutting i beleive the rancho requires a tiny bit tho. i plan on doing the lift myself this week (rancho) and i know that there are a few others who have already done their own.... if you look at rancho's site you can look at their instructions online or someone sugested calling up pro comp and telling them your kit didn't come with any and then going over them to see if it is something you feel confident in doing. these kits are all mostly bolt on so they should be easy for even the slightly mechanically inclined..... good luck i should have a review and some install pics up by the end of the week on my truck

as for the alignment you can take it anywhere really, i plan on having ford do mine since i am about to hit the 15k check up anyway....

FabTech and Rancho do require cutting but it is minimal. All you need is a Sawzall. My friend and I lifted my truck and we did have to take it to get an alignment afterwards.

so when u install the kit do u just do a temporary eye alignment and then take it to the dealer or whatever to get a perfect alignment? is it okay to not have it perfectly aligned until u bring it to the dealer?

When I took it to the shop the alignment was only off a little bit.

I have the Pro Comp, and I installed mine with a friend of mine, and just eyeballed it so I could drive to the alignment place. Needless to say, that was a wild drive there.

CST make an 8" lift that requires NO cutting. Of course, it is around $3200 from performancelifts.com.....VERY nice kit though--comes with Blistein shocks also.

side note - did the kits you guys installed come with some method or instruction on tilting the rear-end/driveline etc?

No, but I did notice the Driveshaft is sticking out of the tranny more than I like it. BUT, I also kept the stock 2" blocks in the rear to give extra lift.
