Passenger AirBag Off Light..

Hey everyone,

The last few days i have noticed that the "passenger airbag off light" has come on a couple times while i was driving, it would stay on for anywhere from 1-5 seconds and then turn back off. It only happens when someone is sitting in the passanger seat though. It doesnt Always happen, only occasionally..

Is this normal? mabey the smart airbags sensing that the passanger is in an unsafe position or somthing?

Does this happen for anyone else? I was wondering if this is normal or i need to go by the dealership to get it checked out.

Thanks,
Nick

yea, mine does it too- if the passenger readjusts their position in my truck it comes on for a few seconds like if they knda lift themselves up temporarily and shift their weight it comes on, then when they re-settle the light turns off.

hope its not anything more than that!! good luck-

if i set my backpack in the seat it comes on. If my girlfriend decides to lay down accross the seat on a long trip it comes on. Its nothing to worry about. I think Ford acctually just put in a pretty good system.

If I recall correctly, Ford has set the airbag in the passenger position to be disabled when the sensors in the seat determine that the passenger weighs less than 35lbs. An airbag deployment can serously injure young children.

When I put my book bag in the passenger seat the light comes on (airbag off).

Hope this sheds some light on this matter.

I noticed the same thing last month when drove to TX and back. My son was sitting up front and when he would lift his butt off the seat to readjust his position, the airbag light came on. Initially I thought there was a malfunction until I figured out what was going on.

the sensor also tells the airbag to NOT deploy if there is no on ein that seat (if I recall correctly)
