who has changed their gears?
i have the lowly 3.55s and i want a 3.73 LS or even 4.10s maybe. who has done the swap? where did you get the stuff at a decent price?? anyone got any parts left over seriously im having trouble findind many parts because apparently there is a bearing difference on 2000 and later models that means buying extra parts to make most stuff work??? someone please help!!

Replacing gears is a pretty expensive mod (think about $1500 parts and labor and I've been qouted as high as $2000). I bought mine (4.11's)for about $575 from Randy's and install with alignment (for having it leveled) is going to run me a bit over $1000.
Any gear person will tell you not to waste the time going 3.55 - 3.73, it's not worth the cash especially if you decide later to go to bigger tires.

In your torino ... you have an overdrive ... ?
I know a person that has the heavy tow option 4.10's and the smaller than regular stock tires that came with that 04 F150 package. He drives all over and says up to mid 80's is very comfortable. 90's and the truck doesn't handle as well and mpg shoots into single digits.
Why do you want to change your gears? The why ? should dictate IF or what gears to get!

no i didnt have an overdrive in the torino, i went with 4.11 gears and they were just too tall to run on the street, so ive got 3.50s in it now
as far as the truck, the problem im having, is the engine is giving me tons of power, but it just doesnt seem like its accellerating very fast. i know the power is there, i have some pretty good mods, it just feels like a whole lot of noise and power with not much "go" i figure its because of my 3.55 gears but i could be wrong. have you any suggestions???
i only worry about gas mileage etc over 80. thats the highest i ever cruise at, on 95 or 64 where the limit is a little higher. anything over 80 and im not concerned about the gas mileage

My take is you'd be more happy with 4.10's than 3.73's ... You do have (.7) OD now! here's my Gear Chart that might help you find out what would be right for you ... the change from 3.55 to 3.73's would not provide much difference in "feel" IMO. Mpg with 3.73's would likely not change much ... with 4.10's you might see better in town and slightly worse on the highway but you would surely feel the difference in launch!
I spin about 2500 rpm at 75mph ... it is comfortable but anything over 80 is wound just a bit tight for long sustained drives.
After efans & UD pulleys 80mph is actually quite ok for me now but I don't know what my mpg would be as I've not stayed there long enough to run out much of a tank? It did add better launch and throttle response with those changes ["feel"|SOTP]. As what it sounds like you are looking for and they don't change highway drivability.

actually i JUST got the Xcal2 today, so that wont be a problem. i drive my truck to work, which means it gets driven about 10-15 miles a day, in my small town. i do romp on it a lot, so im looking for off the line oomph. maybe im just spoiled from the torino, but i feel like the power i have is not getting to the ground.
id like to do 4.10 now that everyone is pitching in here. now i need to FIND some 4.10s and a limited slip that wont cost me an arm and a leg. anyone?

I believe you can get the 4.10 from Ford parts sellers. I read on one of these boards where someone had the factory Ford 4.10s for only $700 at their local dealer. I'm planning a move from 30" tires to 33" and a suspension lift. I have the 3.55 and one of my moves will be to go to the 4.10. I figure the best ones to buy are made by Ford for Ford. I get my Hypertech tuner next Mon or Tues, so I'll be ready when I start these current mods.
