Auto-lamp question

How do you know if the lights are on or not? I like to leave the switch on automatic, which works fine except if it's rainy or foggy, in which case it doesn't turn the lights on.

Here's the problem- there's no indicator that the lights are on- and the dashboard lighting is so dim that you can't tell by looking at it.

I just don't want to drive down the road thinking my lights are on, but they may be off.

Anyone else with the auto-lights have this question?

Go buy the DRL kit, so you always know your lights are on

I have DRLs!

That's the problem! I see the headlights on, and think, ok, the truck has her lights on. But to figure out if the rest of 'em are on is tough.

Please, folks, don't think this is a compaint... I love this truck, it is so, so sweet! Just curious about this one issue.

You could always hit the dimmer thumbwheel, turning it down, if it affects the radio illumination, your headlamps are on.

yup, thought of that

but it's so dim, that doesn't give any indication.

i'm ready to just leave it on autolamp, if the taillights and side markers come on great but if not who cares?

I run mine on auto 24-7 never turn them off. I can tell when the headlights turn on by the gages lighting up. if your gages are dim turn them up. there should be a roller *** an your dash next to the light switch for turning them up brighter.

Do you have fog lamps? On my 05 Screw, when I have the fog lamps engaged to come on with the auto lamps the fog lamp symbol while light up when the low beams automatically come on.

I am thinking you may have differant gauges than mine. my gauges are black with red needles the red needles show up brightly against the black gauge background when lit up. you may have differant colored gauges as I know ford but differant gauge clusters in each differant model of truck.

My dash lights are bright enough that I can definitely tell a difference when they dim with the headlights. I leave mine in AUTO all the time and haven't had any issues to complain about.

The only solution here is to manually turn the lights on when you feel you need them. That's the only way you can be sure they're on.

autolamps means you don't need to worry if they are on or not.

if you think that its too dark when they turn on, have your dealer check the sensor on the dash. It may need to be adjusted.

Otherwise, let the lamps do the work.

Except that they do not turn on in the rain during the day and it is illegal to drive without headlights in the rain in Florida.

then have your dealer check the sensitivity of the light sensor so they come on with more ambient light.

blue flareside,

i also have the same problem, i believe the factory should install some switch to turn the lights on when the windshield wipers are on. I live in Louisiana and many times when it rains and gets foggy it doesn't get dark enough to trigger the automatic lights. What really messes you up is that you get so use to the truck taking care of turning the lights on and off that sometimes you forget when its raining or foggy. looks like we might just have to get use to it, but i would like to see somebody come up with a easy modification to have the lights come on when the windshield wipers are activated.
