I replaced my squeaky-*** pads the other day with a set of ceramic pads. NO more squeak and hopefully no dust. So far so good Great stopping, no squeak and no dust yet after 3 days. My factory pads started squeaking very loudly after about 27,000 miles. They still have plenty of pad left...but if for no other reason than the dust, I was happy to get rid of them for $45.

Yeah I'm glad I at least got 27k out of them. There's plenty of pad left as I said...but the squeak and the dust had to go. They squeaked so bad it was embarassing even in a drive-thru. I would creep to a stop as I pulled up and it was like 'scrrrrrrrape!' Sounded like I had a big piece of metal grinding against the rotor.

By the way my rotors are in good shape. Very slightly grooved, but just a tiny bit. Not wavy at all.

I had "soft" rotors on mine (my f-150 is an early build 7/03), they never did squeek though, just made the truck shimmy when braking. They replaced them and i have had no further problems.

I got so tired of the squeaking and brake dust. I've put 1k miles on my new Porterfield ceramic/kevlar pads, and they are awesome. Absolutely no noise and brake dust is nearly non-existant.

Call them direct and tell them you are a f150online.com member and they'll give you a $20 discount. I paid $91 including shipping and handling. Money well spent.

Hi. I am new here. Anyway, I have an 04 f150 FX4 and have been fighting with my dealership for a year over the brakes. They turned the rotors at 9000 and said it wasn't a big deal. They turned them again at 17000 and still said there is nothing wrong with the brakes on these trucks. They said we are hard on brakes. I told them to.......Well, anyway, yesterday they replaced the rotors, finally, with "updated" rotors. They said my pads are now half worn. Thanks to you guys, I know what to replace them with. The dust is incredible. And EVERY newer F150 I see has the dust prob. You can see them coming a mile away. There is TSB concerning this model years brakes, so at least I didn't have to pay for it. Thanks for listening. I needed to rant a little.

I too had my front rotors replaced because of the shimmy. I was told by the tech , who is a friend, that the new ones had larger cooling fins in them to keep them from warping. Next will be the porterfield pads to get rid of the dust.

Interesting. I'm taking my truck (27K miles) in this afternoon because of a brake shimmy.

I had major squealing problems and a slight shimmy a few months ago, so I took it in. They deglazed the pads and turned the rotors. The squeal went away for a week, then came back (although not as bad). A month after that, I started to get a more severe shimmy while stopping. My truck is one of the early builds, so I'll see if they'll give me the new rotors.

If not, what are my options on aftermarket brake kits? I've thought about doing it to get away from the Ford setup that is causing problems. A few extra bucks is worth bypassing the dealership trips every three or four months.

still havent fixed the proablem

well to day they put the 2nd set of roaters an one set of break pads an the noise still didnt stop. Now they think its got somthing to do with the 4 wheel drive axles said they were going to call an talk to one of fords trouble shooters. just hope they dont try an blame it on the 33x12.5 or the 2.5 daystar leveling kit . just going to keep my figures crossed so far they havent said anything about them

im going with some cross drilled and slotted rotors from rotor pros as soon as they get some more fronts in. They will send all four, powdercoated in any color you wish...for 350. now thats by no means cheap, but it is an upgrade from stock and i really cant afford a really high name brand brake like brembo. :santa:

Was that $91 for all four pairs of pads? Did you keep the same rotors on?

The $91 is for the two front pads. I kept the same stock ford rotors. I don't get much brake dust from the rear so didn't bother putting kevlar pads back there.

Hmmmm...But do you still get squealing from the rear brakes? I happened to look back there on mine and the rear driver's side rotor appears to be grooved. I'm sure it doesn't sound pretty either.
