From what I remember in Mike's (Troyer) long explanation regarding the AF1 is that they also saw a big increase at lower rpm's and not as much at higher rpm's. I think he said it had to do with the stock intake being a much poorer performer at the lower rpm's than it is much higher.
Power gains for the 2004 300 HP 3-valve 5.4 engine on the premium gas tuning are 20 HP & 32 lbs./ft. more PEAK horsepower and torque, and there are areas in the lower rpm ranges where the gains are as much as 24 HP & 40 lbs./ft. of torque at the rear wheels! These numbers are from Troyer’s web page about the 1714. Custom tuning (Xcalibrator) is suppose to be a 50% increase over those numbers.
This 3" single Magnaflow cat-back exhaust gains anywhere from 11 HP at the rear wheels on the 4.6 to as much as 14.7 HP at the wheels on the new 300 HP 3-valve 5.4 motors - along with gaining torque everywhere.
Airforce One - Power gains from this kit are approximately 25 HP at the rear wheels on the 3-valve 5.4L V8 motors at just 3000 rpm!
If all this is true, I’m just not seeing it in those dyno numbers

Here is the dyno graph from my discussion last night. I haven't received the other runs yet.
This run shows the comparison of the first run with the very last run. The lowest curve is the HP curve with factory tune - as you can see, the 100mph limiter made it impossible to get to max HP.
The next curve up is HP curve for the 91 Troyer high performance tune with Airraid. Notice the 'flattening' from 4300 to 5200 rpm.
The third curve up is the factory tune torque curve.
The highest curve is the Troyer/Airraid torque curve.
The solid vertical line is simply a random reading at 3850 rpm which shows exact numbers at that rpm. There is no significance to that particular line, just what his cursor was on when he printed the graph.

Did you have the Magnaflow installed for all of these runs? I am impressed by the HP and torque gains.. They are in the lower RPM range were you need it for pulling out at stop signs / red lights or when you are towing a heavy load.

Yes he did, and we hit the rev limiter on the factory tune, but got the max HP up to 228. As far as running the the rest of the runs in second gear, that would work as well - I just thought it was cool doing it in third and watching the speedo. I let the shop owner do it his way and kept my mouth shut since this was my first time. I'll ask him about it next time.

These are incredible differences. The differences did, however, become less apparent with increasing rpm (as told above).

I'd say 55HP and 80lbs of torque gain at 3400rpm looks pretty good.
Might want to get me some of that.
Well, I have to say those #'s are quite LOW !!! Do you have a 4x4? What size tires? Type wheels?
I have been modding this truck and researching it since day one of it's purchase.
First of all the Airaid DID help my truck. I never dyno'd before and after, but I have track times (slips provided if need be) of improvements. After the Airaid my truck was totally different in throttle response and acceleration. No BS. It helped alot. BUT, I also had a Magnaflow exhaust installed at the time too. More air in, more air out. One without the other will work like crap basically. I literally felt nothing on my exhaust mod (since it was before my intake kit).
The tuner isnt ALL about HP. The shift points alone are worth the purchase. Yes, it does work...bottomline. I ran stock at the 1/8 mile and pulled off a 9.95@70.5mph. It got better with each mod.
I never dyno'd stock. However, I have dyno'd twice modded and here are the results.

28.5" tires on 18" Lariat wheels (set final ratio to 3.92)

Superchips Excalibrator tuner (set to 93 TRACK TUNE)

Best 1/8ET: 9.10@76.2mph with spin

Fully insulated intake assembly
Plasma Ignition Booster
Electric fan system
Ram Air set-up (homemade from Lowes)
Added 5 gallons 100 octane to tank (tune is good up to 96 octane)
10 gallons 93 + 5 gallons 100 = 96ish octane
Should break 8's ALL MOTOR
Have not dyno'd or been to track since these mods. So, I expect even higher #'s.

4x4 does make a difference; more parasitic loss on 4x4's. Every dyno I have seen, the same models with only 4x4 vs 4x2...the 2WD dyno'd more HP to the wheels.
Gear ratios MAY only make a slight difference. Bigger tires and wheels definitely makes a big difference.

The dyno itself makes quite a difference too, the same vehicle I've seen in person will make completely different numbers on a DynoJet compared to a MustangDyno. Some numbers from dynos are also completely corrected for gears/tire sizes/ambient temp/etc. Just keep that in mind.
