Going to the Dyno next Tuesday:Xcal/af1/mag

Next Tuesday I have an appointment with a Dyno shop. Currently, I only have the Xcaliber with three tunes:

87 High performance
89 tow safe
91 High performance

I am going to reload the factory tune and make 2 runs. Then I will load the 87 tune and make a run and then load the 91 tune and make a run (4 total). I have the AirForce1 and Magnaflow on order. When I get those, I will install the AF1 first and make 2 runs with the 91 tune. I will then install the Magnaflow and make 2 runs with the 91 tune and AF1. The only thing I cannot change is the 91 octange fuel I will have in the tank.

Hopefully this will give some more insight as to what each item/tune does. As soon as I have some data, I will post.

I too look foreword to the info. keep us posted. I am not sure about the data resulting from running the 87 oct. tune with 91 oct. fuel in the tank but I do understand you can't change the fuel in the tank. I look foreword to all the data you care to provide us with thanks.

What kind of dyno does the shop have?

eddy-current chassis dyno or an inertia dyno

Since I don't know anything about Dyno's, I copied the following from the Tulsadyno.com website to answer your question:

DynoJet is the maker of the inertia Dyno we use here at TulsaDyno & Performance. They have been endorsed by Nascar, because of their ability to accurately tell the hp and torque, and be able to deliver accurate results to tuners. Our DynoJet is a model 248C, and is currently their biggest Dyno. It measures up to 200mph testing speeds and up to 1200rwhp. That means you'd need over 1,400 CRANK horsepower to max this dyno out. You can find out more information on their website at www.dynojet.com

Most intertia dynojets do have the ability to hook up a eddy accessory to them.

But in this case because he is not tuning the vehicle at every band in the rpm range it wont mater. The inertia will do fine because he will only be @ WOT.

Humidity was to high yesterday (per the Dyno guy) which would have affected both air/fuel and horsepower reading slightly. Rescheduled for this Thursday.

Got my Airraid in today and if there is time on Thursday, I will install it and make the run with the Airraid after the tune runs.

thats dumb as ****, if thats your area, then tune it for the area. your not suppose to wait for a "good" day and decide you want to dyno for the most numbers.

Whoa there buddy, I don't know him very well, but he was just looking after my interest. I am not going to him to have my trucked tuned, I am going there to make some dyno runs with the Troyer tunes in the Xcalibrator. He just wanted to make sure that when I made the runs, the humidity was not extremely high (it was basically raining) - in other words, make runs on a 'normal sunny day'. You must have misunderstood why I was going there. My main purpose is to compare stock tune to Troyer 87 and 91 octane tunes then with an Airraid w/91 octane then with Airraid/91oct/magnaflow. As far as 'tuning for my area', I told Mike troyer where I lived, and if he put something in my tune for that, then that's fine, but I'm not sure if that is the case. I could have easily gone over there to make the runs, but i'm going with his expertise when it comes to getting comparable runs. The last thing I want to do is make 6 runs over a month and somebody question the way they were done. I feel confident that the runs I will post will be as apples to apples as they can be with little, if any, variance due to environment and weather, thanks to the person I am going to.
