strange clunk from front end with autospring?

ok so lately when i make anything close to a full lock turn, mostly rights, my front end has a rub then a popping sound. i can see that it is the little 'nipple' that is on the backside of the long steering peice (knuckle?) it looks like it is being grinded (is that a word?) on when the turns are being made? is this a bad alignment or are others gettign this sound and i am just worrying over nothing? it just recently started happening after about 10k or so with the auto spring... never happened before the alignment either.. i can take pics if someone would host them for me if you need to see it to make a call on the cause?

You can create your own photo gallery on this site to host them. You've been here awhile, I suprised you didn't know that?

Something ain’t right. Nothing is suppose to rub, hit, bump whatever when you make tight turns, Autospring or not. The first thing you need to do is check and make sure everything is tight, no loose bolts, etc.

ak 1fitty, after a couple of weeks of having the lift in, mine started doing the same thing, it's driving me nuts. I'm haven't put it in 4WD yet and not going to until I find out what's up w/ it.

is the nipple metal? if so thats your steering stop, smear some grease on it, should help remedy your noise. common problem in rangers.

With the info you posted AK, I just went out and looked at mine and found where mine has been binding/rubbing. It appears when making tight turns the knukle rubs on the lower control arms, check both sides on your truck. I guess since the front gets raised, the control arms gets raised and cause an interference.

The fix I think that I'm gonna do is take a sanding disc on a die grinder and blend out the rub areas deeper to create more of a gap between the 2 parts. Should be able to make those tight turns then. Or you could just take out the auto springs in your case.

BTW, darn good post you started.

what size autospring level are you using- if its the 2.5, could it be remedied with the 1-5/8 or 2?

well i'm glad to see i'm not the only one with the problem!! i have put mine in 4x4 and makes no difference except it seems less likely to happen? not sure why that was but it could be my imagination. yes the nipple is metal and it is rubbing on a sideways triangle looking piece on BOTH sides of my truck.... WEAK ***!! i was thinking about just taking a peanut grinder to it but i was going to see if maybe it could be an alignment issue since this doesnt' seem like a common problem? the grease fix would work but i would still feel the parts rubbing at that would still bother me.... i am using one of the smaller 2 autosprings i think the 15/8 one but it has been awhile since i ordered it so i could be wrong but i KNOW it isn't the big one.
thanks for the opinions guys

Well I found out a little more this morning when I climbed back under mine. I noticed that my tires are rubbing as well. Rather than grinding on the a-arms, I need to get the front lowered about 2 inches since I'm running w/ a six inch lift w/ adjustable coil over's. Should fix it, or at least gat a little bit better turning radius.

I believe the triangle piece that you are referring to is some type of steering stop on the spindle/knuckle. It is hitting on the a-arm before it reaches the other stop/pocket on the a-arm.

like i said, steering stop, that is its job, to stop the wheel from turning any further. maybe with the autospring lift it is hitting the incorrect place. either way smear some grease on it, and let us know if its any better
