Removing grill?

I got my black grill center in the mail today. It came with a primered surround which I intended to paint black to match the truck, but I am going to mount it with my Chrone Lariat surround to see how it looks, because I think I may like that look better.
Question is, im trying to remove the black insert from the primered surround to replace the Lariat center and im having problems. I removed all the push clips from the surround but the top ones are holding tight. They dont seem to push out of the way and I do not want to break any of these or else the grill will be loose. Any suggestions?

TIA

You just have to use a pair of needle nose pliers and bend the locks out of the way. You can break the locks and the grille wont be loose. Here is a picture of mine with the chrome surround and black XLT grille:

If you decide to go with the Lariat surround, I may be interested in taking the primered one off your hands.

Chances are I will use the chrome surround so i'll let you know once its installed.
I think once my HID projector retrofit is complete, there will be too much black in front so the chrome will look good. The headlights will be black so there wont be as much chrome so it should look nice.

One trick I remember somebody using was to slide a feeler gauge under the tab of the grill insert and then slide the tab out over top of the feeler gauge. I hope that makes more sense when you read it than when I typed it!

Well that was a little rougher than I thought but its finally on. Only thing that went wrong was one of the plastic studs on the ford emblem broke off....
So I ended up using JB Weld to hold it in place. Still curing now. Overall it looks great and i put back together the primered surround and Lariat grill. If anyone needs it let me know and I can ship it out.
thanks for all the tips

For added strenght and security you can always use screws and a washer like i did when i broke one of my tabs off installing my grill. The screws worked so well i removed the other tab.
Later Trev

Let me know what you want for it and I'll see what I can do.
Thanks.
