Rear End Shutter came back and is now a CLUNK... UGH!!!

I too had the rear end shutter and on my 2nd service, had the cluth pack work done. When I rolled of the dealership all was fine but a couple weeks later, it's back and even worse than before and has advanced to a solid "clunk" when I take off from a dead stop and sometimes when I take off from a slow role... any body else have this common issue return after taking it in for the fix???

I feel this clunk too when I take off. It sometimes feels like 2 clunks. If I just roll and barely tap the gas I still feel it, if I press the gas fairly hard it is a pretty strong clunk. People say this is play in the slip yoke and they put some grease in it and it comes back shortly. I don't know if it is worth fixing if it is going to just come back. Seems like another "characteristic" of this truck............

I think I know what the problem might be...I had my clutch packs replaced as well (acually 3 times) but anyway, after they replaced the clutch packs, the clunk was still there, so they Lobed the slip yolk and has been smooth ever since!

did u have them lube the slip yolk?

I had the clutch pack deal replaced 4 months ago and the slip yoke was just done this past friday. It still clunks! The sound resembles a clunk that would come from drive shaft play or bad u joints. Im getting tired of going back and forth to the dealer! anybody else!? That and it seems the truck doenst take well to mods, still havent found a permanent fix for my add a leaf' squeak. THE ONLY TRUCK THAT EARNED THE RIGHT TO BE CALLED THE NEXT F-150!? Im starting to disbelieve!

From what I read in here and other ford forums....

That the mechical applied WRONG grease for slip yoke- ithey are suppose to apply some TEFLON GREASE, not wheel bearings stuff grease...

It happened to me...after replaced rear clutch pack...its smooth and much better...but...

After a few weeks or so the shudder came back ( only felt when its straight from dead stop ) so i saw some replied post in here and other forums about grease slip yoke and i did it myself, used mobil one syn grease (wheel bearings etc) and it went away but it came back after few weeks later.

So, I just post new thread in here and other fourms to try find out where to buy me teflon grease...a guy replied that GM sells better teflon grease so i m going to try that. it should be solve problem.

Hope that help!

Hey guys, I've posted this over on FTW as well. Honestly, it's driving me nuts. Had the clutch packs replaced about 3 1/2wks ago, the shutter came back just like it was, I feel it twice leaving from a stop, truck was brought back to Ford id last week, my tech feels that it was the slip yoke w/ not being properly greased, turns out it wasn't and he used the teflon greased that's called out in the TSB, guess it's still there, just waiting on the pinion angle to be shimmed (for the lift) so i can get the truck back. We'll see.

My dealership has treated me great w/ having the lift and still taking care of the TSB's, but FORD MOTOR is really pss'n me off. I honestly wish that they could get a fix out to the dealerships to solve these problems on the first go around.

dealer had to do a shim kit in mine( so he said) .mine sounded like the gears and axles were rattling around when crawling over a speed bump.they got it fixed after so called shim kit, it was howling the first time, then low speed growl when hard braking second time.third was the shim kit.

the clunk is the slip yoke. There is a TSB on this so your dealer should be reading up on it.

Most of us with the slipyoke clunk have found it to be a temporary fix. The clunk comes back after a few thousand miles.

I too had a clunking from the rear. I brought it in and there was a bulletin about it. It was actually in the tranny. The did a reflash on the PCM and it fixed it right up. Truck feels quicker too, and shifts are improved. Don't know if this will help you, but it worked on mine. I have 2005 FX4 with LS though.
Good luck
