Truck Violently skaking, Help???

The first time this happened was back in Febuary, I was driving down a road at about 60mph with the cruise on and all of a sudden the truck started shaking violently ( like I blew a tire) so i stopped on the side of the road to check my tires. Much to my surprise I found nothing, so I blew it off thinking maybe a chunck of ice fell into a rim ( roads were snowy) got back in the truck and it was fine..... Fast forward to yesterday. I jumped in the truck (nice dry sunny day) drove the mile or so out of my developement at 25/30mph. stopped at a stop sign, turned left, when i got to 50 mph truck started shaking VERY VIOLENTLY, again i stopped got out, nothing, Got back in started driving shaking is back, so I hit the overdrive button, the trans downshifted vith no change in shaking, I then floored it, rpms went way up and shaking slowly increased with speed ( truck speed not rpms) so I'm thinking this rules out motor and trans?? Any way I nursed it to the gas station at 25 mph, got gas and smokes, I went to drive back home and the shaking was GONE , even at 80mph plus. This is not the normal vibration, this is a very violent shaking of the entire truck, the wipers almost bounced off the windshield and you can see the bed and cab shaking back and forth.....Scares the crap outa me , any suggestions..............

I've read some posts on this board with the same symptoms that you're describing. Seems they had a problem with their emergency/parking brake. One of the wheels would not release causing a violent shake.

Try a search for E-brake or violent shake and you might find more info.

Good luck,

Scott

On the parking brake note: did you have it engaged before you left the first time? I set my PB once in a buddy's driveway, then when I went to disengage it and put the truck in reverse... well, I didn't go anywhere. Finally applied some gas and heard a loud thunk. I had the vibe that trip. Then after bowling on the ride home nothing... and nothing since!

I had the same thing STX . Dealer replaced front rotors at 15k. has 19 k on it now and it returned yesterday. It;s in the front end. Well at least it was a light shimmy this time . It had the violent one before steering wheel is very hard to hold on too .

Never touched the e brake. The truck was shaking like all the lug nuts suddenly came loose, I called the dealership and they said they had one in there for the same thimg. Ford says it's a gasket under the hood that collapses and causes turbulance, I would have to be following an F16 to get that kind of turbulance......Personally I think it has something to do with the rearend, I had the shudder, they put the additive in it and it has been fine since, but I remember how bad that could be at times..

Its not in the steering wheel, its the whole truck, although I had to have a tie rod replaced at 12k now I have 27k and I need another one and a sway bar link, and another radio ( 3rd one, single cd, when it gets warm cds wont eject)

my e-brake experience

Intermittent but violent shaking after coming up to speed. The entire truck was shaking. Noticed this always occured after having just made a recent stop. Driver side e-brake was froze up. Wouldn't set or release. Took to dealer for check and repair and problem has went away. Check your brake, does it depress smoothly and easily. When mine was froze it would only depress about 4" and was very tight. Hope this helps, glad my problem turned out to be from something minor.

Sorry I took so long, I had surgery on my had (kinda hard to type), I took my truck to the Dealership and on the way there I decided to try the E brake, So I stopped at a stop sign, set the brake then released it. Sure enough when I got to speed it started shaking again, by the time I got to the Dealership (4mi) the left brakes were smoking like hell!!!! Now I'm arguing that I want all new rear pads and rotors.. Still waiting................ They ordered the E brake lever......Thanks for the advice cause that was pretty damn scary... Pattrik

Lightbulb Absolute answer

I had the EXACT problem.

Take it to the dealer. It needs to have the clutch packs replaced.

It had nothing to do w/ the e-brake or anything else.

Good luck!

I had the same thing happen to me. Took it to dealer and talked with service advisor. They replaced front rotors and roadforce balanced the tires -- replaced 3 of the tires as they did not meet specifications. Also replaced clutch packs. This was 3 months ago and have not had a problem since then. hope this helps.
