Shackles and abnormal tire wear?

I serviced my truck today. Went to rotate my tires, and I saw that the rears had a fair amount of feathering on the inside edges. I rotate my tires every 3K miles, so I know it's not from lack of rotation. Only difference I could figure is the 2" DJM shackles, but I dunno. They're not worn enough to where they're noisy, but I think it's fairly significant considering that I'm pretty intensive in maintaining my stuff. Anyone else noticed any weird tire wear after installing shackles?

On a side note, I adjusted my shackles to the 1-1/2" hole and now my low speed vibration is gone. Doesn't look as cool as it did at 2" though. I guess whenever I get around to shimming it, I'll set them back.

I have 2" shackles w/shims on my truck and my tires are not showing any abnormal wear.

Excuse me for being captain obvious... but.... is you tire pressure too low?

Not insulting your intelligence, but you *might* have not thought of that.

I dont know. I just can see in my head how lowering the rear would make the tires wear more... The physics just doesnt add up..

Now if you lowered it like 6", that would be different...
Must just be the tires.

I rotate every 6,000 miles. I just about got 18,000 miles on it now so it’s time. I keep my tire psi at 35 and check them regularly. I haven’t noticed any abnormal tire wear. I don’t see how lowering the rear of the truck with drop shackles could induce unusual tire wear though. None of the dynamics change.

Neither can I. I know that when I installed the shackles about 2-3K miles ago, tire wear was smooth and even. Now I've got slight feathering on the inside edges of the rears. I had a low speed driveline vibration from about 25-30 mph, I don't know if that's related anyhow.

Lowering the rear should be able to cause any caster/camber since its on a solid axle.

Ford exstended the tire warranty to 36 / 36 for abnormal tire wear. Various tire brand not all bad.

yes.ford extended warranty from 1yr. 12000 to 3 yr 36000 on the generals. mine wore real bad on inside and outside. looked like underinflation but i have a little mor sense than that[i think] had 35988 miles on it and was headed out for a 120 mi trip and stopped by dealer, said look at mileage, look at tires, look at letter from ford. week later had 4 new tires. still same crappy gens. but better than nothing. especially if they last another 36k.

Which tire do you have on there Quintin?
I got the BF Goodrich Radial Long Trail T/A P265/60R18
They claim they’re good for 40 to 60 K; that sounds like a stretch to me

I've got the BFG Long Trail T/As too. I'm hoping to see at least 40-50Kish out of these. Last time I balanced mine, a couple roadforce figures were kinda high, but not high enough to redflag it or cause a vibration. Tire Rack has these for like $85 a piece; not exactly confidence inspiring, that's cheap for an 18 inch truck tire. Mine aren't worn weird enough to start singing just yet, but I'm gonna keep my eye on them. It's about time to have my alignment rechecked again anywho, even though those were on the rear.
