So Blue'05Screw, what have you decided? Are you buying it or walking away?

Similiar thing happenend to me with my 2002 explorer. 2 years later the paint started cracking. I traded it on my F150. Non-factory paint just isn't the same.
Why didn't you take it back and have it redone? Quality work with quality materials will last as long (or longer) as the factory paint. My brother got the warranty work by redoing the inferior work of the prior paint shop. They used a cheaper paint that also dried faster for a quicker turnaround that didn't hold up. My brother uses the best paint materials because almost al of the people around here that buys a new vehicle will be paying on it for 6 years and he doesn't want to damage his reputation and have to redo the work before they get it paid for. Besides, he knows everybody in town and word spreads fast if you do poor work in a small town.

Well thanks everyone for the replies. After seeing that everyone seemed split 50/50, I went in to the dealership thinking that if they did a FLAWLESS job on the repair that I would still take delivery assuming an overnight test drive didn't reveal any red flags.

Well, to their credit they did do an incredible job on the paint and I couldn't tell that it had even been touched - good color match, no paint line or any irregularities where the hood surface curves over to the underside, and the hood was in perfect alignment after being re-mounted.

Long story short-had they not said anything, Id have never known.

Just to reply to others suggestions that the selling dealership may not have had all the facts abouth the delaership doing the repair: I admit that the sales manager may not have known if it was being painted or buffed but his salesman handling the deal ABSOLUTELY knew what was going on. My B.S. detector was going crazy while I questioned this guy.

I'm real happy with the new truck. Thanks again EVERYONE.

My wifes 500 buck digital camera is in for warranty work the second time. IMO CANON &#%$ so to expedite having pictures of our 583 mile old 05 XLT Scab I'll do it the old fashion way. I'll get one of those disposable cameras and have them developed at Wally World in one hour then scan them etc etc. After all a pic is a pic once submitted and I can do all kinds of things with Photo Shop or Photo Impact. ;-p

If you only knew how much is damaged in route, a small scratch is the least of your worries. Here in FL we are required to notify the customer if the damage exceeds $600 or a % of the cost. Mind you this does not include new parts added to teh vehicle due to you are still getting a new car. For example a few weeks ago we got in a new truck that had been rear ended at the yard prior to shipping it to us. So this F250 got a new bumper, upper and lower bumper cover, grille and headlight. The parts were all new and the labor was under $600 so no one would ever be able to know that it had been worked on.
