Ordered truck damage on arrival - HELP

This happened to me last month when I bought my truck. They were driving it around to the detail shop as I was waiting in the showroom.
Sales man comes up to me and says there is a problem, and walks me back to the truck.
There now was a 6 inch gash over the rear wheel well on the bed.
They said they would paint it and it would be perfect. It was getting late and they said well, take it home tonight and decide.
I agreed. Took it home, and could think of nothing else but that scratch in my Brand new truck. My joy of a new truck was shadowed by the imperfection in my Brand new truck.
Next day I called em and told em to get me another one.
I drove the scratched one for a week while they found my current one from another dealership.
Dont take it. Why pay that kind of money and have a repainted truck. It will always bug you , trust me. I just went through it.

I say look for another truck.
As everyone else has said.....If it is a quality job, let it go. Tell the dealership you dont appreciate being mesed with but you need to understand where they are coming from.........One problem, fixed, will always be a problem. As long as it is documented as a re-paint, I wouldnt worry. I think that prepping and re-painting is the proper way to fix it vs just "buffing it out".
Take the truck and enjoy it. Dont sweat the small stuff.

Again once again, If they repaired it perfectly and you cannot tell I'd say make them admit they lied and give you something in return such as a grill guard. They now owe you. If they do not want to miss out on that purchase they should bend over backwards!

What would worry me is that the hood may start fading at a different rate than the rest of the truck since it was painted with a different formulation at a different time. Yes we all know that repaints can be better than the stock paint, but they allready messed up two times on his explorer???
If the quality is there, I would take the truck. As said before, things happen in transit that are uncontrolled by the dealer.
Unfortunately, the honesty of the dealer is questionable, he should have told the truth. My truck came in with a blemish on the leather seat, almost unnoticeable to me. My salesman
told and showed me the problem and stated the seat would be replaced. No problem.

If it looks good I would take it with the exception that they documented it was done and provided an extended warranty for free on the truck. That way if the work is not satisfactory at a later date you can go to another dealership to get it repainted. If it was going to fade at a different rate it would be much later allowing you to get a new paint job before the end of the warranty.

Your paying for a new truck...not a repainted one. Either get a a couple grand knocked off or walk away. On second thought just walk away, I wouldnt except a repainted hood on my BRAND NEW truck. No way.

So if they come in damaged, will there be a warranty claim note in order for them to get paid?
I think the whole point here is knowing it has been repainted.
If you know it has been repainted and dont care, well then its pretty simple. Buy it. If it bothers you now, it will bother you even worse later.

And that, boys and girls, is unfortunately why some dealers keep their mouths shut and their customers in the dark...please don't shoot the messenger, I don't necessarily agree with it, but I do see stuff like that daily and I do understand the reasoning behind it.

What makes you think part of your new truck hasn't been repainted or worse? My brother does the warranty work for the local Ford and Chrysler dealers and if the new vehicles come in with damage, they go directly to him from the truck and they never are at the dealership until they are repaired and the customers are not notified until they are ready. The sales people will probably never know if there was anything wrong with the vehicle in the first place. People who expect everything to be perfect are destined to be forever disappointed.

If it were me and I was paying for a new truck, i would tell them to replace the hood with a new one off the lot. That way you still get a brand new hood with the original factory paint. Unless of course they painted all the hoods on the lot! Either that, or get some money taken off. I definitely would not go back to that dealership, though. If they are going to lie to you about "buffing" your hood, what else will they lie to you about.
Unless you are totally opposed to the painted hood, I would check out very carefully in the sun light then have them take into the shop and check it out under the lights. If it passes your inspection have them make a note on the sales order that they guarantee the paint will not discolor, peel, or fade differently than the factory paint for a period of time. Considering your history with the dealer, if they would not agree, I would walk.
All this talk about "demanding" and "walking out" is a little extreme. I doubt the owner of the dealership knows 100% of everything that is going on there. He probably heard about it, and was told they would try and buff it out.
Lighten up! Creating an enemy is no way to approach this.
Look at it this way:
Until you pay, and sign, the truck isn't "yours". Right now, the truck belongs to the dealer. You can still walk away from it, but the only one you will be hurting is yourself. That truck will probably sell quick on the lot. Wait for them to finish, and THEN decide what you are going to do. I understand the stigma of knowing your truck has been repaired, but as others have said, it happens all the time.
When my wife and I went to see our new truck when it arrived, there was a scratch on the front bumper. I told the salesman, and he had it fixed. No matter how hard I look, I can't tell it has been fixed, as far as I know, they could have swapped it out with another bumper. Fact is, they fixed it to my satisfaction, and we are both happy.
From your point of view the owner was not honest, but keep in mind that last he may have heard was it was going to be buffed out. Let him know it was painted, and see what they do. Demanding freebies is not going to get you much. Best way to handle this is cool and calm. Going in there swinging is only going to cause problems.
Cooler heads always prevail.

My experience has been every since they had to replace my rearend for the whine at 2000miles my new truck joy has went away. If it doesn't bother you then do it. But it looks like it will from the fact that you are on this site and the long post. If you do take it I would demand free stuff for the lying. Good luck
