I've have the diablo tuner ... and I think it's the cat's meow. But for reasons other than roasting my tires.

Tires can have a big effect on if you can roast them or not! … If you want to roast’em go put on a set of them 80,000+ mile hard rubber or low traction index types! And they are usually quite cheap to replace! Another tip is go as small as you can bolt up. You shouldn’t need a tuner to light’em up good then!

Unlike some of the other tuners … with the Diablo you will likely find that you’ll be making adjustments. Comparing Diablo with option 1, 2, or 3 out of the box with others is like apples to oranges in my opinion. All tuners are essentially equal in that they modify code that controls things. Every vehicle is slightly different and will be unique based on weather, gas, modifications etc…

The tuner has many adjustables to push those limits one might want to explore! I think of it as a tuning device rather than a tune loader. Sort of like playing a CD vs the real instruments. With a CD you’re not likely to hit a bad note!

So, to me it’s a simple question in whether I could possibly adjust for near optimum efficiencies for whatever the combination might be at a given time? (yes)

Will I have to send the tuner back and forth until somehow I feel I got the best 3 compromises that could be had anywhere? (no)

If you don’t want to experiment and try to understand what the tuner is doing you’d probably have better results with somebody's educated 1,2,3 pick based on whatever of other tuners?

Well my theory about custom tuning is this; let the guy who has 13 years experience specializing in the F150 platform do in-depth tunes specifically for my trucks PCM code. Not to mention the fact that if I did want to tweak something myself I could with the Xtreme Personal Tuning Software. I got way to much cake invested in a new truck to take a chance on screwing something up. Just a thought

So now all the tuner needs is a bigger screen, and data logging capabilitys and it would be the sure fire winner. IF they made it a little cheaper.

My truck had re-flash done and I can't find a "sticker" under the hood with the updated code. If Troyer goes by the vin#, it would be different than what I have now, wouldn't it? How would he tune it then?

You have to have the PCM code to custom tune it. Go to the dealer and tell them you want the code. They will put it on a sticker under the hood somewhere for you. It only takes a few minutes for them to roll the diagnostic machine over and read the code. Actually, it’s a federal law that when anything to do with emissions is changed it requires an “Authorized Modification” sticker.

Kinda off topic here.....

My diablo tuner does not allow me to adjust for rev limit, has anyone else noticed this? I have the latest r85b update.

I emailed diablo about this, and they came up with this reply....

Dear Justin,

The Predator should allow you to raise the rev limiter right out of the box. If there is an issue with this, we can fix it through a custom tune free of charge. Please take a look at the custom tuning page of out website for more information on getting a custom tune for your vehicle.

Thank you for your interest in DiabloSport!
Stay tuned,
Dan, a proud member of the DiabloSport Support Team
