Question Any SuperCrew drivers with a Diablo tuner in the house?

Ok Diablo users (and x-cal users feel free to chime in). If you drive a big 'ol supercrew 4x4 3-ton monster... can you roast the tires with an 87-octane tune? I used to be able smell the sweet aroma of melting tires when using my 1714 w/ 91+ octane tune... but alas the 87 tune is pretty lame. Smart shift points & slightly firmer shifts over stock just doesn't cut it. The low-end grunt and power isn't there with the 87 tune. Nor are the neck-snapping shifts. This makes me think there has got to be a way to get the fun of the 91 tune in an 87 tune package... cuz right now the 87 tune is barely better than stock. Not the 'bang for the buck' I'm looking for. I hear the Diablo is better on the low-end than the Superchips line.... anybody?

Let the chip flame-o-rama begin!

Yes. 87 tune, but the 91 is a bit better on the top end side.

I ran the 91 octane tune for a couple weeks and got 2 speeding tickets (finally going to court tomorrow on one of them). Been running the 87 tune ever since. No, I can no longer light up the tires at will (2wd, 3.08 gears). But I've got 275/60-17 Michelin Cross Terrains on it and they are quite sticky and over 11" wide.

You’ll never get the performance out of 87-octane that 93 will give you no matter what programmer you use. It doesn’t cost that much for 93-octane, a mere 20¢ a gal more. That $5 bucks on 25 gallons. What’s the big deal?

The Xcalibrator is the way to go: 50% more hp & torque than the 1714.

jp - I know the two will never be the same, but why such a huge difference?! The tunes are 87 & 91, not 93...(I have a 1714) that little octane diff cannot mean the difference in low-end grunt. Me thinks somebody is still holding back on their tunes. To me, it says that Ford tuned the 5.4 to the max and only used wussy-tranny programing to smooth out the feel of the truck. And if you can't spin your tires with the 87 tune on the x-cal, then that just plain sucks as well and that 50% more power claim doesn't mean much. That 50% is prolly the diff between the weak 1714 87 tune and a maxed-out 93 octane tune on the x-cal. So it's prolly barely 20% (ie, 3hp) betwen the 1714 91+ tune & x-cal 93 tune.

There has got to be a way to just SPIN the tires using 87 octane gas from a light...

And it's $300 a year savings... just shy of what a tuner costs... or a CIA... or Exhaust system.. anywho, it's not about the money, its about the 4-octane difference and why those 4 measly octane mean the diff between roasting them or not.

Yo - what tuner do you use?!!! And you said TIRE mark (singular).. not tireS.. so do you have a regualar rear end (no LS) and do a lame-o one-tire burnout?

I can still spin my tires on 87 but more so with 93. I got a 3:55 posi, which isn’t the best gear for hole shots anyway.

1714
"Power gains for the 2004 300 HP 3-valve 5.4 engine on the premium gas tuning are 20 HP & 32 lbs./ft. more PEAK horsepower and torque, and there are areas in the lower rpm ranges where the gains are as much as 24 HP & 40 lbs./ft. of torque at the rear wheels! Gains on 87 octane are on the order of 9-12 more HP, and about 20 lbs./ft. of torque."

Every little bit counts with these big heavy trucks. The custom tune is 50% more.

50% more of which tune? If the 1714 can put down 20hp & 32ft-lbs at the 91 tune, the x-cal can throw down 30hp & 48ft-lbs with the 93 tune? More importantly, what's the diff with the regular octane tunes?

Anywho... 12 measly ft-lbs can't be the diff between tire-roasting and not..

Yes, sorry to say my Diablo is still in the house. i never did get around to putting it on the truck. I was waiting for gas prices to go back down to $137 gal. Could be a long wait.

Sounds like RP is doing some tire-roasting tonight on 87-octane with his new programmer.

You should try a Diablo out and if it’s no good send it back. They have a 30-day money back guarantee

roasting tires

https://www.f150online.com/galleries....cfm?gnum=4704 there's something that I'm not understanding here. I have a frigging screwcab 4x4 tool box in bed. 3:73, 5.4/3v with nothing more than an exhaust that we made at the muffler shop for 30. bucks, 2 1/2 pipe ( stainless ) from the cats back. other than that its stock and I run 10.68 in the 1/8 at 67 mph. and it'll spins both tires on dry pavement. I always run premium fuel because I get about 35 or so miles per tank better mileage and ( yes ) better performance. some of you must have slower than normal trucks. I can set at any red light and get rubber about the length of the truck with 265/70/17's.goodyear wrangler ats.
Just my oppinion but some of these tanks just dont run right.

I can see reg cabs & scabs burning out.. but not the screws. Very portly trucks. I feel my stock truck was quicker than people think, but the 91+ tune with the 1714 made it an animal! Now that I moved back to the 87 tune, I feel it's barely better than stock and I can't roast 'em. I think that's just wrong.

This is why I asked for SUPERCREW owners to reply.
