Which Fuse did you guys use to turn your amp on and off with the truck, thanks.

I am assuming that you are installing an after market amp and looking for a remote turn-on source and that you are not wiring your amp directly to the fuse box. your main amp power should be coming directly from the battery (fuse protected).

 

I was going to install it to the fuse box. In the past I had just pulled a fuse, and put it back in with antenna wire under it. Just wondering if some one found a fuse that shuts off with he truck, b/c the guide in the manual said some did, that didn't. thanks

 

i don't know. that's a new one on me. you may want to try posting in the amplifier forum, you might have better luck.

 

The problem with an antenna wire is that there is not going to be enough amperage going through that little wire to power an amp. My suggestion is to wire it direct to the battery to get the proper amount of power to your amp...

 

I believe he is speaking of the remote-turn-on wire. This is usually a blue (or blue white) wire that waits for a 12v feed then turns the amp on and off with the 12v feed (similar to a relay). It doesn't acutally provide the power to the amp, just a signal to "turn on."

Most aftermarket headunits have this wire. I assume this guy is adding an amp to the stock stereo. I've had success using the wiper fuse for turn on when I wasn't using an aftermarket radio, but I don't know if this works for the F150's.


Hopefully he's got a nice 4/8 gauge running from the battery straight to the amp.

 

Here is an idea. The radio is very easy to get to, pull the trim panel off, then unplug the harness (unbolt the radio if needed). Tap the black w/ pink striped wire, it is the switched wire to the radio. Here is a picture, it is pin 'O'

 

weill I was doing the stock radio, but I just ordered an aftermarket head unit. So that will have a wire on the back I can tap into? thanks

 

yep. it should be blue or blue/white like thw420 said and it should be labeled remote turn on or something similar. make sure you get the wire harness adapter so you don't have to hack up the stock harness.
