thinking about buying an 05'...please help!!!

Hello everyone! I currently own a Nissan Titan and must say that its a pretty nice vehicle performance wise. But, the inside is nothing but cheap plastic and rattles like crazy. So, I am looking to buy an 05' Lariat loaded out. But, I have done some research and found that the current generation F150's are having some problems of their own. Can some of you who own these beautiful trucks tell me what problems I may encounter? I have read about "vibration" problems in the drivetrain and other issues and am wondering if Ford has fixed these issues? I love the interior of the F150 and it seems VERY quiet. I know its not the quickest truck on the road, but I can buy a sports car if I want that much power. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am simply trying to find out information about the F150 as I am SERIOUSLY thinking about buying one. At this point, I am not very happy with my Titan, so I was hoping that some nice members in this forum could help me with hands on knowledge about the truck that they own and have experience with. I REALLY like the F150 and in many ways wish that I would have purchased it instead of my Titan. Sorry if I seem like a Troll to you, but that is NOT my intentions.

Nice to see you finally woke up and decided to buy a real truck!

Seriously- The Titan is a good truck with a great engine and tranny. The F-150 is an amazing truck with a good engine and tranny. I think you will find that the F-150 is a very well built solid truck, not to mention the most comfortable. IMHO

Have there been issues with SOME of the F-150? Yes
Have there been issues with ALL of the F-150's? No

I have 17,000 miles on mine now and I have had the following issues:

1) Brake rotors resurfaced
2) ABS sensor went bad
3) Clutch Paks replaced

All of these were minor and replaced under warranty while a rental car was provided to me.

Get the F-150, you will be very pleased!

FYI, all vehicles in some form and fashion have issues and that includes rattles. The new F150 has its share of them as well. So if your just getting rid of the Titan because of that please give it up. The Titan interior isn't all that bad compared to the other trucks. And if you get a Lariat, you will have the rock hard leather seats. That is what tore me away from the F150 when I wanted one.

There were (and still are) some 04's with unresolved vibration issues. There are many theories as to the cause and some have managed to get their vibration issues resolved with various fixes. Others remain unresolved.

The vibration issue is practically nonexistant on the 05's.

You can browse through this forum for examples of other issues, although none seem to be widespread. A few brake issues, a few tire issues, a water leak around the third brake light, a couple squeaks and rattles.

As for the vibration- Although the problem exists, it is a very small percentage of trucks with the problem. Ford is working on resolving the issue and I would not worry about it too much. Just drive the truck your are going to buy before you sign the paperwork. Some Titan's have very bad brake issues, but it does't mean they are all bad trucks. Get my drift?

With 10000 miles on my truck, I couldn't be happier. I replaced the OEM brake pads at 6000 because they were chewing the rotors up, but haven't had any other engineering problems with it.
Overall, it's a very comfortable and fun truck to drive...Kevin

You all made some very interesting points. First, let me clear up a few things. I am not getting rid of my Titan just because of rattles. I have had brake issues (which is a very common problem on the Titan), many many many rattles, instrument gauge cluster replaced, transmission problems, etc. So, its not just the rattles and I know that any man made product can have problems. Yes, the Titan kicks butt when it comes to pure sport car acceleration. But, if I wanted a sports car, then I would buy one. I realize the Ford isnt as fast or doesnt have a 5 speed tranny, but it does have the 5.4 which is tried and true. Also, I love the interior of the Ford so much better and thats where I spend most of my time. The inside is so dang quiet and seems very refined. I think after an Airaid CAI and Magnaflow exhaust, the F150 would perform so much better. But again, its a truck and I dont expect it to perform like a Mustang. I have lost alot of faith in my Titan and am unsatisfied at this point. Is the Titan a good truck...yes! Am I happy with it at this point...no! So, I am going to give the F150 a serious look. I really like the looks of the F150 and it appears the fit and finish is top notch. Anyway, I am going to test drive one tomorrow again for the 2nd time and go from there.

I had an 2004 with the drive line vibration. Took the case to the DSB and was awarded a replacement truck. I purchased a fully loaded 2005 Lariat. No problems at all and rides smooth as glass.

My 2004 rides beautifully. and is beautiful.

I love this truck more than my last car, which was a BMW 5 series.

I have over 32000 miles on my 04 Supercrew FX4 and I couldn't be any happier. No vibration, rattles or any other kind of problems with my truck so far.

My 05 King Ranch, Supercrew has not shown any problems. 7700 miles now.

Very good running and driving truck. I traded my 01 King Ranch Supercrew in for the 05. The 01 had 60K on it with Zero problems. Oh, I did have a check engine light on the 01 once....it was the DPFE sensor. But, that was it.

The 05 is a great truck. Very quiet and smooth. Everyone that rides in it comment on the smoothness and the quality of the ride.

In my estimation it's a great truck.

Troll or not I will reply !

Comming out a a 2001 GT 5 Spd. this was a big change for me .

I don't tow trailers with it , neither put stuff in the bed , don't even go in the dirt , so basicly I drive like a grand father most of the time but when the viagra kicks in , I love the 5.4L , not a rocket but what to expect from a heavy vehicule.

Truck is addicted to gas but I'm sure other comparable vehicules does the same .

If you buy this type of vehicule you should be already aware of that .

I live in Quebec so 4X4 was a plus and just the look of the truck inside out , I was in love .

I'm a 100% satisfied but like you can see I'm not very demanding physicly on the truck .

If I had to buy a new vehicule tomorrow I will not hesitate to buy the same thing .

Maybe in 3 years it will be different , I may buy a Minivan or a Vette , I don't know .

I cannot compare other vehicule because I never owned any .

I hade a 98 F150 and this one and the Stang in between .

oh I may have a rattle around the ashtray , one day I will look at it....
