Post-Butyl Pad Removal...
Hey all,
For those that have had the butyl pad removed from the passenger side rear inner fender, I am wondering what the inner fender on yours looked like when you got the truck back. I am not sure, but mine almost looks like the dealer did not put the zinc coating on it. Then again, I am not sure what color it should be.
When I looked up there to check it after I got the truck back, I can see the scrape marks where they scraped the pad off. It looks like it is black behind where the pad was, and feels like there is a coating on there. Is the coating they put on clear, or is it colored? If it is colored, then I am almost certain that they did not put the protective coating on my truck. I am trying to figure out so that way I can see whether or not they actually coated the inside of my fender. On my receipt, it only says "Removed pad and cleaned area behind pad." I am hoping they put the coating on, if not I am going to make them put it on when they replace my rear window. Let me know people! Thanks.

I'm a little worried about this myself. Haven't had mine removed yet, but I looked at it for the first time yesterday. I had no idea it was that BIG! I was thinking a small pad...this thing is like 2'x2' square. I'll be pi**ed if later down the road I get rust or paint problems! I don't know why the hell they put that dang thing on there in the first place.

I had mine removed last Friday. The coating that you are referring to is flat black and covers the majority of the back section of the inner box wall. It's obvious once you stick your head under the truck. If you don't see a flat black 'obvious' coating, I'd say that it wasn't done correctly. I was told that the dealers were struggling to get enough materials (i.e. the epoxy coating) to do the work on all the trucks that were be recalled. I can take a pic if it would help you better understand what it should look like.

They put those pads there to aid in preventing the "oil canning" effect of the sheet metal (tendancy to wave in and out like the bottom of an old school oil can)
They probably had an issue with the stamping process and I guess this is a pretty common fix... unfortunatly it's causing problems with the F-150's.
