I've never tried to overfill. I let the pump stop and then fill to the next dollar....
That's me.
When shutoff occurs I go to the next dollar whether I'm sitting at .01 cents or .99 cents.

All I care about is making my monthly charge card statement easier to cipher.

or you could finish it at 33 cents every time.

Then you can prove to the credit card companies if there is ever fraudulent use of your card.

When a pump shuts off can depend on the nossle. They shut down based on fuel content in the return airflow. Some are more sensitive than others.

I never get a chance to top off my 37 gal tank. Many gas stations shut down at $50. I did find one that was close to topping off, but it still stopped at $75.

Prove?
You don't have to prove. I was amazed at how much they didn't care.
I got gas passing thru NJ on the Turnpike.
When I got my bill it stated I bought a tank everyday for ten days at that station.
I called and they said to just annotate the fraud charges, they didn't care about a description of the perp or any of the details.

There was no pay-at-the-pump, the guy took my card inside the pay booth, ran off a dozen chargeslips, then he would put one in every night and remove that much cash so he could balance out.
Skipped out after a couple of weeks. Who knows how many cards he ran per night.
They didn't care.

Your just a drop in the bucket. Also the CC companies can go back to the vendor and in many cases get their money back from them.
