Trade in value on '04 SC FX4...need input please.
What's up guys? I'm new to this forum, and need some help/info. I have a True Blue/DSG '04 SC FX4(w/ 5.4L V-8), with most of the bells and whistles. She has all the standard FX4 stuff, with the "flow through" center console, leather interior, Reverse sensors, bedliner, In-dash 6 disc CD changer, yada...yada...w/ 26K miles on her. I've taken good care of her and she's in excellent condition.
Well, I no longer need a truck for my job, and I really love the '05 Stangs(GT), and was considering letting her go for one. I figure I'd save a bundle on gas, and could probably get a lower payment.
At any rate, I went by a dealer tonight, just to see what they'd give me for my truck on trade. It stickered for right at $37K one year ago, I bought her for $33K. I figured they'd offer around $25-26K or so. Man was I WRONG!!!
They would only offer $20,750!
I am fricking beside myself. Can someone please shed some light on this for me. I just don't get it! I got $24,500 for my '02 Lightning (traded it in on the FX4). I just cannot believe a truck this nice, only has a trade in value $20K. What the hell! Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

I went to upgrade my truck last year to a lariat...HA..with only 2K miles on at the time..I brought my truck stickerd at 34K and they wanted to give me 19K for a trade in 3 months later with 2k miles on it! I said screw it and I'm keepign what I have! The resale sucks on these trucks I think!
26k miles is ALOT of miles for a 1 year old truck... I looked at trading mine in and they offered me 26k and I only have 6800 miles on it!! I told them to pound salt, they will turn around and sell it for 29k... In your case, thats crazy, if you can get 25k I would take it... seems to be the going rate...
You have pretty much the same truck I do, I have taken it to multiple dealers in the area and looked it up in Kelly Blue book and some other pricing guides on the Internet, the average price for trade in was about 21,500. It is amazing how much a new truck can drop in value as soon as it leaves the lot
Doesn't suprise me.
I had a 04 Wrangler before I bought my FX4. I had it for 3 mths and HATED it. With less than 4500 miles and 3 mths of ownership, I lost 4,000. And Wranglers supposedly hold their resale value well.
Try to sell it yourself but expect to take a decent hit.

Thanks for the input guys. I expected to take a hit on the trade, but damn! I also went to www.kbb.com and put the info in to see what they'd say retail was.
As yob2kanobe said, it retailed for around $28K with the mileage taken into consideration. What I cannot fathom, is why on earth does the dealer feel such a need to clear $8 fricking grand for one damn vehicle. I understand they need to make money on it, but that's just rediculous!
Thanks again...

After putting in your options and condition these sites will give you a good idea what fair market value is for your truck. Just don't expect a dealer to give you full retail for your trade.

Best bet is to try the local newspaper or the parking lot across the street from the dealer. Maybe put a sign in the window that says "Dealer wants to screw us, Buy Me" haha. good luck. its hard to get a good price when going from a truck to a car because a dealer knows you want something else rather than just something newer.
I purchased a new 04 FX4 SCAB with cloth in December with similar equipment except for leather for $25K. Take away 26K miles and considering the rebates on the 05s they are advertising on TV, I cannot see anything over $22K as a trade-in.
Trying to buy the hottest vehicle that Ford currently has probably does not help your cause any. They may be low balling your truck to raise the profit on the GT.

Two words Slv..."big rebates". As much as we love em when we're buying a new one, they kill you a year later when trading. I took the same bath to get out of a vibratin 04 xlt...35k list..paid 29k...got 22k on trade at 6 months old! ( and i'm in the business!!)
The value you recieved is a wholesale value. Also referred to as ACV (actual cash value). A mustang GT sells for full MSRP so your not seeing the normal over allowance on your trade. Besides 26K is a lot in one year and miles cost you money.

what happens is 'your' truck is only worth as much as the 'next' truck. And as some people get really good deals on the trucks brand new - A, D, X plans etc... - that makes the resale value lower for all the other trucks - eventhough some people pay close to MSRP
i got a loaded lariat supercrew 4X4 out the door for $30,500...so would you still say your 1 year old 26K mile FX4 is worth $26K or $27K
also - those NADA and KBB values are almost always high
my dad owns a used car dealership and he will almost never pay even NADA trade-in for dealership trade-ins
and most of the dealership still make $1K or so on the trade-in - so that means the dealerships are usually giving a few grand less than the trade-in value listed in NADA
sucks that you will get so little for your truck - try to sell it on your own or bypass the dealership and try to sell it directly to a used car dealership - CarMax usually pays really well for newer, low mileage vehicles

That first year hurts no matter what kind of vehicle it is.
I've got a friend looking at an '04 Z06 Corvette (the owner passed away last month) and the asking price is $23K under sticker.
The car has 543 miles on it.
