Dang Factory Bedliner!

Anybody else have this problem? The "dealer installed" bedliner-the tailgate piece hangs too low. When the tailgate is shut, the bottom inch or so of the tailgate protector gets jammed into the hinge area between the end of the bed and the tailgate. This has rubbed the paint off the edge of the bed and it's starting to rust. I wonder would the dealership repaint it for me under warranty? Or would they dismiss it as the common knowledge that bedliners always rub off paint, and that's just the way it goes. I took the bedliner out anyways because I wanted to save the rest of the bed. A little too late. @ 5,000 miles, there are quite a few HUGE patches where the paint is down to the primer, on the wheel well humps. Big white patches. On a black truck, this stands out pretty well.

Take it and have it done right (Rhino-Liner or Line-X).

Problem solved.

Dealer installed FORD liner in mine... no such problem.

Sounds like you might not have the correct tailgate piece maybe?

I'd like to get it LineX'ed. But what happens if you spray over rust? It would probably freeze the rust in-place, but I'm not completely sure.

when they line them they completely grind the paint in your case rust down inside the bed and then they spray them.

I would imagine if it were a dealer installed liner, they would probably take care of it for you.

It's worth a visit anyway.

Like CrazyAssNick said, they will remove the rust portion first.
Then paint will be irrelevant and you won't have those (imho) lame *** dealer bedliners to deal with.

take it to the dealer...complain and have them line it for you. My local dealer rarely even installs the drop-in bedliners anymore. They have their own on site-rhino/line-x type bed liner

I have a crappy Ford bedliner, and I had this problem for about a week, then I cut the bottom of the tailgate cover and problem was fixed... I still have paint worn off there, no rust yet though... I will have them repaint the whole box this summer... After I get more salt and dings form this winter...No sense in bringing it there now.... They will be used to painting beds by then...

same thing happend to me!!! The very frist day I got my truck and brought it home, I was inspecting it again myself, opened the tailgate and saw the paint rubbing off where the bedliner got jammed inbetween the gate and the bed!! I was pissed, a one day old truck and paint being rubbed off!! No way would I settle for that, so I took it to the dealer, showed them, they admitted there was a problem. They gave me a rental car for the car as they took it to there body shop and had it pained where it was rubed off! Good as new now and still is! Take it in and get it fixed!

[jhartz] - you are actually going to paint the inside of your bed ? that is just crazy........ why wouldn't you just get a spray in liner ?

I had the exact same problem with my '05, but I had seen it on a friend's truck, so I trimmed the tailgate portion first. Problem avoided. I've had Ford bedliners in my last 6 trucks and never had this issue.
