Coil Spring Compressor

I am going to change out my front shocks after work. I was wondering if anyone has done this at home before with a spring compressor. My friends dad has one, and i know they rent them at auto zone, or pep boys. Any help would be appreciated. Anyone with daystar please advise as well since i know you had to compress the spring to install.
thanks

Those wimpy ones they rent at Autozone won't work. I know from experience. You really need one of those power wall mounted spring compressors. The ones they rent are for cars. The springs on our trucks are way to heavy duty to work.

I have a buddy that works at Midas ( they do breaks and such ) and for a case of beer he compressed the springs and installed my daystar spacers for me.

I'd call around first though and find a place that will "help" you out. Most places want to do all the work or none of the work.

Good luck.

Well, you are wrong. Someone forgot to tell these autozone spring compressors they don't work...

Well then it must have been the set I had.
1. The part that "grabs" on to the spring wasn't even big enough to fit around the spring.
2. I tried and tried and when I got it to a point where I thought it was working, the thing broke.

Again, the ones I had must have been bad.

I used an Autozone one to put a lift on my 03 Wrangler and they worked fine. I just hope you have air to work with because if your compressing them with a rachet your in for some work!!!

I couldn't get the pins to go over the coils and they kept popping off.
Do the trucks come with heavy duty coils if you have the tow package?

You may have had a strut compressor....did it look just like the one above? The Pro-Comp springs I put on my Jeep were very thick and it fit them just fine.

As for the tow package....I think thats only the hitch and wireing, charging system and cooling system upgrades. I havent heard about any suspension upgrades with it.

it looked just like the ones in the above pictures. Well either way, I guess I stand corrected. The autozone ones work apparently.

Good luck.
