23MPG Last Night
I drove from iola, ks to tulsa, ok last night. wanted to see what kind of gas milage i would get and i was shocked.
318mi @ 60mph used 13.8 gallons of gas
23MPG
Now if I only buy cruise control i might be able to get myself to drive that speed more often and save alot of money seeing as how I drive about 230 miles per day.
BTW
2004 F-150 Reg.Cab XL
4.6l

I make regular trips almost every week to Orlando Florida, I'm in St Pete. Which is about a 70 mile drive or so. And I do a little bit over the limit, but my gas gauge never even moves. The only time it does move is when I get stuck in traffic.
Then on another trip, I was heading to Jacksonville, and I made it there with half of tank to go. Usually in other vehicles, it's a full tank.

I'm getting 17 in all around driving. That's 1/2 city stop and go along with doing 80+ mph when I get on the freeway. I bet I could milk 20mpg on a long trip at 60mph.

No engine mods.
However, There's no way I could maintain 60mph. The best I could hold would be 70mph. Next trip I'll gauge.

Geez...How you guys do it ?

I just got a 2000 F150 regular cab Flairside 4x4 with the 4.6 V8 (everything stock) and I have YET to get above 14 MPG even on longer highway trips. I regularly only get ~ 13mpg
It has about 50,000.
I have to tell you I am VERY disappointed in the gas mileage with the F150.
I had a 2000 Tundra extended cab 4x4 with their 4.7 V8 (everything stock) and I regularly got 16 MPG combined around town and highway (sometimes up to 18 mpg on longer trip).
I had it from new to about 70,000's
I am also not overly impressed with the F150 engine "feel" overall, it seems like the Toyota drivetrain was ~much~ more smoother and sophisticated. I was impressed with that engine.

ps. Both have tonneau cover. One is a 4.7L and the F150 is smaller 4.6L
Either way why would it matter comparing a 2000 with a 2004, not too mention, wouldn't you expect the newer 2004 F150 to get better gas mileage anyway , right !?
