I think it's a myth regarding waiting to use full synthetic.

My BMW came with full synthetic 5W/40 brand new from the factory. My oil change intervals for that car are every 15,000 miles!!!

To tell you the truth, I do my oil changes at double the interval (7,500 miles with Mobil 1) because I just can't stand to wait 15,000 miles between oil changes. Either way, my car has never used oil, and was running full synthetic since day one.

Get this.....

I change my oil every other month (3000 miles). I drive round trip about 80 miles a day. I only drive highway miles, and have been told on plenty of occasions I dont have to change my oil so often.

~BUT~

It's my truck, and I will change the oil as I feel. Right? What I'm trying to say is it personal preference here. Whichy oil, which oil filter, when to change, when not to change...bottomline, take care of your truck the way you feel necessary.

Interesting article, but I have issues with his recommendation of the 3 mo/3k miles drain intervals. Remember this guy is the owner of several quickie lubes, of which volume is part of his profit motive. Oils have come a long way since the 70's and mfgrs. often recommend drain intervals in excess of 3k miles, often going up to 5k or 7.5k. In Europe drain intervals have successfully been extended to 10k miles. Amsoil recommends 12 mos / 25k or 35k depending on which oil you use. I've been doing the 1x per year schedule on our vehicles for almost 10 years now and have never had an oil related problem. For me this is about 12-13k miles and I change my Amsoil filter every 6 mos.

Not quite...............................

We have'nt discussed the oil filter relocation kit in this thread yet.

I think it is amazing that the company that offers the relocation kit for sale has not sold ONE UNIT !

Because, if they had, the person who bought one and installed it would be so thrilled with it that he/she would be raving about it in this forum and possibly in this thread.

Complete with pictures including little red arrows and parentheses.

OR, they bought it and there is absolutely NO WHERE TO MOUNT IT.

AND, they just dont want to talk about it.

NOW..........we have covered it all.

UNLESS !

Timply,

Did you see how far you have to reach to get to the oil filter? There is an attachment that fits on the top of the filter that hooks up to a socket wrench extension. The filter attachment is sold at Sears, but I can't remember what it is called

I changed my oil at 1,100 miles and will go to a 3,000 mile change interval with Motorcraft 5w20 oil and a Motorcraft filter.

Scott
