Most dealers will not perform this modifcation due to the liabilities involved, Most times when we do things like this, the customer holds the dealer responsible for anything and everything that happens to the vehicle from that point forward. Thats why you cant find a dealer to assist you! Good Luck

I can see that happening. This isn’t a Ford accessory you’re adding, you are modifying the vehicle and the dealer doesn’t want to be responsible for any ill repercussions.

Also, seems to me if you wanted these options, you bought the wrong trim level of truck in the 1st place.

Hi MACKDADDI,
I have done both the gauge and the cruise, and both were 'new' to the technician doing them. Ford has a 'hotline' even on Saturday, where the tech can call for step by step instructions. Ask the service writer about the hotline. In both cases, the shop had to call, then told me the job was very easy. Both jobs, two different dealerships, took under a half hour. 60 bucks for cruise, 85 bucks to turn on the gauge cluster sound chimes. No dealership that I contacted could set the odometer. That I had done by a speedo dealer I contacted through E-bay. That cost 75 bucks, plus shipping both ways. Close to a hundred.

As to putting in the cruise, it is a Ford part, the only cruise that works on these trucks, and only sold by Ford. Ford has no problem adding it to the truck, even in Kalifornia.
They also had no problem adding the FX4 dash, also a Ford only product.

You might call Galpin Ford in California, and ask the service department to give you the 'work code' for the job, then give that to your local dealer.

I do understand you having problems finding a willing dealership. The closest dealer to me thinks you have to add a servo under the hood to pull the throttle cable on our drive by wire trucks. They also tell me you can't change the tire size on these trucks. Quote "It's impossible, and against federal law to change the tire size".

Also, I wanted a part for the power seats. Called three dealership parts department about the part. All three told me the power seat bases were 'riveted together' and that there was no way to replace any part. Total BS. I took them completely apart in five minutes, fixed the rods (damaged in shipping) and reassembled them, all in less time than it would have taken to get the parts, if they had been avalable.

i have tried sevral dealers

i have tried several dealers including my own all the parts i have installed are ford parts as i know thats the only way to get the options iwant. my dealer tried to call ford but the dumb;.,,)(&*&^& told the tech line that it was aftermarket the others just say it cant be done. i work for a major class 8 truck manafacturing dealer and everything i do is in programming when mods are done. so i wont take it cant be done. thats a go idea calling galpin thanks chris ive posted before and talked to you about this and im still trying to get it done!!!!!!! as for the other turkey i wanted an stx cuz i wanted the painted bumpers and fog lamps and stuff besides doing the mods myself is to put my own expression in my truck, not letting the manafacture do it for me. sorry you dont like having individuality in your vehicle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

your dealers are being a-holes. Keep shopping, and tell whoever will do it for you that your next truck will be bought from them. They have a hotline for these types of things, the others that have done these mods got their's reprogrammed without much issue.

And for the hyper people here, Cruise control IS an available option on an STX. Not everyone wants to spend several thousands of extra dollars on the highest trim level to get the $500 or so of features they want.

When you bought your truck, had you told them to put cruise control in it, or no deal, I'm sure they would have been more than happy to figure out how it works.

Like I said, keep shopping.

Yeah...what's up with all the STX haters? Mine came with Cruise...and someday I will be adding the Lariat Instrument Panel...should I have bought a Lariat instead, just because I want better looking gauges but still keep the factory look?

Pay those people no attention Mackdaddi.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Adding Factory Ford Parts that come stock on most trucks = Self Expression and Individuality???

You're trying to get a dealer to equip a truck with something it didn't come from with the factory; I can't really say I blame them for giving you the cold shoulder. Liability aside (there probably isn't any anyways), if something goes wrong during their install, they know that they'll be married to your truck to the bitter end, and lots of dealers just don't want to do that. Kinda like opening a Pandora's box...it's just a possible pain in the *** situation. They know you don't mind paying them, and they know there's money there to be made, but they also know that that battle is better fought elsewhere.

some of you have no clue if you can purchase thepart thru the ford parts system than you can upgrade it thers is NO liability programming a pcm to work a cruise control if ford didnt have drive by wire this would not be an issue as well they and most dealers have an upgrade department that will do thing like cruise p windows p locks etc!!!!! O DONT GIVE ME THAT CRAP. as for the idiot who likes to ride the people who dont want to spend 30,000 plus for a truck you know what and where you can go i paid half what you did generally got a nicer loking stock truck and when im entirely done i still wont have in mine what you have in the base price of yours and yes indiduality is what i said. if i want an stx with fx4 gauges and fender extentions as welll as other items its my right to each their own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! soone ror later youll see the light and sooner or later ill find a dealer who gives a s*&*

Personally, I just think they (the dealership) are lazy and do not want to work out this problem with you.

You can buy OEM parts and have them installed (by the dealer) all day long, and not only that, but they will extend to you the same warranty to that part that the truck has or 1 year/12,000 miles.

It's not about them not wanting to be "married" to your vehicle as one person put it. If that was the case then why do they offer these services at all?
