1. What amp did you use for speakers?
2. Why did you have to raise it ..."Raised to keep air flow from vent."? Is there an A/C vent under there?
3. When installing the components in the front, does for provide the area for the tweeter or is that custom? How do you connect both the speaker and the tweeter together or back to the amp?
I used a cheap 4 channel Xplore amp that was given to me. It does 50 w. x 4.

There is a vent under there for the fresh air and it is also used when you turn on the heater.

There is a stock hole for the tweeter. I used the crossover that comes with the speaker set, then you hook up the speaker wire to the crossover.

This thread is kinda old but its informative. So Im posting my question here to bump it up for anyone else who might have missed it.

Dupuis: is it neccessary to replace the tweeter? How good is the stock one? Whats the difference between regular speakers and component speakers? I was looking at the Infinity Reference/Kappas. Obviously you prefer the kappas but why? Thanks in advance for your reply, RV

I replaced my audiophile speakers with the Polk MMC5250 component speakers and they sound 100 times better.
The difference between component speakers and regular speakers is the components are seperate units and they come with a crossover that lets you tweak your speaker settings, where as the regular speakers are 1 unit.

I hope this helps you out a little.

thanks, what should I look at in size? Infinity shows a 6x8, 5x7, and 5-1/4" speakers that would all fit? Should I stay with factory size or go smaller? What am I gaining/loosing?
If you cant tell, I dont know anything about speakers. Thanks

seriously spend the extra 200 bucks to get a new radio. New speakers isn't enough, you'll see. a 200 buck radio will sound SOO good compared to the crap factory..even the audiophile.

All the speakers sizes you listed should fit in the truck. As for which ones to buy, that is a personal preference. I bought the Polks as they were on sale and still are till the end of the month. I also use polk speakers for my entire home theatre setup and they rock there as well. If you are interested in buying the polks Email me and i will tell you where you can buy them. (You will be impressed).

Some of these have been answered, but I like the tweeter better on the Kappas. Keep in mind when it comes to the higher end range of a speaker, it really comes down to what type you like. Some say that the Kappa tweeter is to harsh, and if left alone it can be, but what I do is turn the trebble down some and I get the sound I'm looking for. I can spend a lot more on speakers and maybe improve the over all sound some, but what's most important is that I'm happy with it. I look at it this way. If these Kappas tweeters can play up to 40 hz, which is beyond what we can here, then when playing at 20 hz which is the max we can here, it's not stressing at all, making for a great sound through out the high range of our hearing. This is just my thinking on this I am not making any claim as to if this is true or not, just my take on it. I've bought my 1st set of speakers with the Kappa tweeters some 25 years ago and still love the kappa sound today.
Do what I tell most people. Go to your local big chain store and hear all the diff. speaker brands out there and pick the one you like.
I like the components over the all in ones because you can get the tweeter higher where the sound stage should be, at near ear level as possible.
Sorry so long, I had so time on my hands for a change.
