xm radio volume
yes, it's normal (in both my last 2 xm tuners at least). Not sure of your setup; mine was/is FM modulated. IF modulated, you can adjust the output level of the modulator. Still though, with my modulator turned all the way up, it is still not as loud as normal radio/cd is. Scares the heck out of me on the odd occasion I switch to CD and forget to turn the volume down...
My tuner is a pioneer tuner with a kerk antenna. The hu is a pioneer xm ready radio. I think that means it is not modulated. I am a bit disapointed with the quality of the sound. It is better than fm but not as good as my cd player. A frind of mine owns a new mercedes and his serius sounds better than the cd player.
I have to look into the line out issue. I am bringing the truck back to the guy who installed it on monday just to check into it.

The sound from a satellite radio signal is "near CD" quality. In ranking order based upon sound quality (best to worst), the options are:
Hard wired directly from the Line Out plug to the back of the radio.
Use of a cassette adaptor
FM Modulation
If your friend's satellite radio sounds better than his CD player, he must have a crappy CD player, because that is really not possible.
Is it the Commander that you have?

NAH...sounds like you have a problem with the HU. I have an Alpine thats XM ready. I just installed the tuner and XM antenna and it sounds great. Volume is fine and all. Take it back and have then fix it for you.
