That is why I consider those trucks unsafe.
Don't you know how dangerous it is to drive around with a bag over your head?

Enjoy all the quality Nissan plastic that you will be driving around in. I think I would have had to seriously consider a Tundra Double cab over the Titan. The Titan may have more horse power, but he Tundra double cab is much better looking and has a mess load of better resale value. Not to mention that the Tundra is only 25 HP less than the Titan and weighs less...and drives better and just does not have a real ugly front end and ..well I could keep going on...but I like my F-150 too much or I would be driving a Tundra....again.

Thumbs up Truck choices

My .02 to this discussion-- I work for a auto dealer group that sells and services Ford, Dodge and Nissan. When I was ready to trade out of my '01 Lightning, I spent many days studying, driving and comparing trucks.

I have to agree with the comments regarding the Nissan transmission (very smooth). The Hemi in the Dodge has incredible power/torque but the MPG suffers. The front end clip on the Nissan doesn't bother me much; I wouldn't look at it from the driver's seat

With pricing not an issue (I could get a 1500 Quad Cab Hemi SLT $4000 less than the Lariat) and the Nissan for close to the same $$$, I chose the Ford. My reasoning was that I spend many hours in my truck each day, and, hands-down, no truck manufacturer can compare with the interior fit and finish of the Ford, especially in the Lariat model w/ the flow through console. The interior in the Dodge was a big step below the Ford, and the Nissan was a distant third. The plastics were cheaply manufactured, and in AZ, we have had customers w/ Titans and Armadas come into the dealership complaining of the plastic warping on their trucks/SUVs!

mtofell,

the one thing I forgot to concede is that I too think the thing is pretty ugly
Honestly, if Nissan would remove those two chrome diagonal bars from the front grille, it would look much better-IMO. Good luck with your new truck!

azcarguy,

I chose the Ford. My reasoning was that I spend many hours in my truck each day, and, hands-down, no truck manufacturer can compare with the interior fit and finish of the Ford, especially in the Lariat model w/ the flow through console.
This is the nicest interior in any truck that I've seen and better than many sedans as well. One of the things that really sold me on the new F-150. I get lots of compliments from my co-workers and friends, especially on the interior.

sounds like you drove both and made an informed decision and found which truck was best for you, just like alot of us F-150 owners did. Hat's off to you and good luck with your new truck.

In reply to the silver on the front... I am already working on my buddy who manages a body shop to find a way to match at least some of the chrome on the grill and the mirros to my body color... I am hoping it can be done.... As for the Tundra, I would likely have bought one of them if it had the same front leg room as the f150 and the Titan... I am 6'4" and spend too much time in my truck to be cramped.... the Titan, the Fords and Chevy/GMC are the only trucks with enough leg room... the Dodge and Toyota just don't have it.... I agree some of the interior features of the Nissan aren't up to the F150 but I am not a big 'bell and whistle' guy.... I am a bit concerned though about the complaints about plastic breaking The stereo it came with is a kicker too... Fosgate 10 spkr system, 6 disc changer, etc... it was an $1800 upgrade on another truck (it was part of the LE on mine so the price wasn't separate)... So I guess that means it's about an $800 system with the average dealer 'ripoff' margin accounted for.... you gotta love them... where else can you get a set of floor mats for $110??? This is a great thread... Everyone has great opinions.... I hope I don't end up regreting my choice.... One last note on the appearance... I agree exactly with the poster that said he couldn't see the ugly front end from the driver's seat.... that's exactly what I told my buddy who was at the dealership with me.... hopefully people will see it in their rear-view and get outta the way

Good luck with your new truck. I hope it holds up better than Nissans that I have owned in the past. I had one Nissan pickup that all of the paint peeled off of it. I had a Nissan Maxima that had more electrical problems than any car in history. I drove the Titan before I bought my F150, and could not get past the ugly front end and the "plasticy" interior. Granted, it was faster than my 6000 lb F150, but Ford tunes the engines in the F150 for longevity and durability. The longevity and durability of the Titan have not been tested yet...27 years of F150's just prove that others may come and go...but there is only one F150.

I too looked into the Dodge Hemi and the Titan before I bought the F-150. They are all nice trucks but I was sold on the interior, exterior looks, and overall "Well built" feeling I got from the Ford and not the others. As for the engine/transmission, the 5.4 is a great engine mated to a not so great tranny. If Ford put a 5 or 6 spd into these trucks it would be on the same level as the Dodge and Nissan drivelines. With that said, your vehicle choice should be based on what features and strengths you are looking for. I got everything I was looking for in the F-150 except for the neck snaping power that can be taken care of with some mods (like a supercharger). It is much easier to make a vehicle preform better than to make a vehicle look totally different on the inside and out. Also, it is impossible to make a truck feel "Well built."

What is great about the full size truck market now is that you just can't loose. The Ford, Nissan, Dodge, and Toyota are all good vehicles, its just which one you think is the best for you.
Anyhoo, good luck with your purchace and keep us updated!

I have a friend with a Titan 4x4, I think it's an XE or SE, the cheapest model Crew Cab. I dorve it brand new and liked it ok. But it was nothing special.

Now almost a year later, he's been through 3 or 4 sets of rotors and pads, and he complains that he only gets around 10 mpg. He started lemon law proceedings about a month ago.

I defected from Ford once and bought a Tundra in 2002. It was a nice truck but the brakes sucked, mine were recalled for and entire new system from the spindles out, shortly after that the new design warped. It would not tow well, it got horrid gas mileage and I had more overall problems with it than any Ford I've owned.

Honestly, I was shocked at how awful the Tundra was. Now if I did not use it as a truck it would not have been that bad, at the time I was remodeling a house I bought an hour away from my house. I did a lot of hauling with that truck and it failed miserably. I bought that truck for cash thinking I would keep it for 10-15 years, I ended up lasting a year and 28000 miles, I was glad it was gone, I don't miss it one bit.

Not to burst your bubble. I hope the Titan works out well for you. If you don't use it as a truck it should. The Jampanese companies don't seem to "get it" in the truck market. It takes more than a 32valve V-8, spray in bedliners, and fancy model names to make it in the market.

Basically, Japanese trucks make great cars. If you need a truck, stick to the big 3.

Like I said, I wish you well. I hope it works out, my dad is looking at a Titan also so we will see.

This is an interesting debate. I was in the same predicament about 2 months ago. I came from a family that was diehard Honda buyers. We had so many Hondas, absolutely no problems. My dad also drove GM trucks, so I grew up a Ford hater I guess you could say. Anyway, as it came time to by my first vehicle out of college, I looked at a lot of different things. In the end, it came down to 5 vehicles, the Acura TL and TSX, the Honda Accord V-6 Coupe w/Navi, the Titan, and the F150. I was expecting the F150 to lose hands down. I didn't even look at the GMs as I didn't want to be locked into a multi year payment on a truck in it's final years of the current body style.

I was looking for mainly a daily driver in the city, but also have a boat, so I ended up leaning more to the trucks. The Titan was my first choice at first, as it offered the Navigation system in the cars, though the Nissan version does not even come close to the Acura/Honda version. The truck was also Japanese, which I assumed made it very sturdy. I soon found out that Honda and Nissan don't exactly have the same version of "Japanese quality." The Titan does have a lot of power. If you want to race around, it will get the F150 easily. I did prefer the F150 pulling the boat though. It is also way more comfortable inside.

I also thought the interior of the Nissan looked like junk. The interior of my '98 Honda Civic that I was replacing looked more upscale. The interior was a huge reason I chose the Ford and I will soon be putting the Kenwood Navigation system in, so I should be totally happy. I am interested to see the new Tundra next year though, as I think Toyota could pull some business if they would built a "real" full size truck.
