Talk to Ford Engineer

Talked to Ford today about a few things and one of which was the 2005 vs the 2004 f-150. (i'm a ford tech this is why I had this access)
He said the 05 is far better then 04 in ways like throttle response(which the lastest re-burn will fix the 04's)
Quietier engine (5.4) (the way this is done is to long to type)
Some vibration reducing improvements
just overall updated in minor ways most people will never know or care about. It kindof makes me wish that I had waitied, but I love my truck and of course they will get better and better.

How do you know which computer program you have....do they have a new one out? Our truck has a ton of throttle lag.

thanks

Throttle Lag

I just got my 04 back from Ford and they re-programmed or something to fix the throttle response problem I was having, now its like driving a completly different truck, whatever they did, its awesome, hit the gas from dead stop or at any speed and it goes.........

F150 Jax... What did you tell the dealership that convinced them to make the adjustment? Was it done under warranty??

Supercrew04,

I just traded an 04 for an 05 in Dec and the throttle response was the first improvement I noticed. The 04 had a slight lag when taking off and would surge at slow speeds. The 05 if I didn't know any better feels like its controlled by a cable. I believe they got it just right now. The second thing I noticed was that the engine was quieter on the 05 when the truck is idleing and has less wind noise when going down the road. Also both trucks were two tone and they done a better job on the 05 where the two colors join. Just the over all quality of the 05 is better than the 04.

ET...

ET,
All I did was tell my assigned service advisor that my truck would hesitate from a dead stop. They said no problem, we'll take care of it, when I picked up my truck they said they upgraded the software in the computer in the truck. Yes it was covered under warranty.

Had a buddy that the transmission was messing up on a new 2000 chev, the dealer worked and worked trying to fix it. after a while the dealer said that it would be replaced. I guess the dealer talked too a tech that knew something and was told to flash it with 2001 software, for the 2000 software had a bug in it,fixed it right up. Makes you wonder why the dealers and service dept don't keep up on changes made on vels they sell and service.I bet a lot of drivers think the vel they drive is running ok, when it really needs a flash upgrade to run better. It may keep some people out of the repair shop over small stuff that a new flash would fix.

do you know if they are refering to the 2005 or 2005 1/2? I hear a bunch of changes were put in place in September of 2004, so it would have to be built after that date, which most 05's would be.

I mentioned the throtle lag when I had the 04 F150 in and they said they couldnt fix it. I told them I heard of a computer reflash and they said they would look into it. When I picked it up he said they reflashed the computer. I asked him what the code # was for the update and if they posted it in the truck. He had no idea what I was talking about. I then took the truck out for a drive and NO difference. I dont think they did anything. I hate living in a small town. Time for the 1714

What's the build date for your truck. I ask because my truck was built on 8/04 and want to know if it has the re-program.

last flash i heard for 04 model was from october. There must be a newer version if the 05s have no throttle lag.

I drove two 04s back-to-back today...one had a noticeable throttle lag, the other had virtually none. I forgot to look at the build date, but I suspect one was significantly newer. They were identical FX4s except for color and one had step bars and a power slider.
