Interesting 1/4 mile times!

So I was reading the Consumer Reports "New Car Preview" issue and they conducted their own tests on most new cars and trucks.
Here are their stats:

04 F-150 XLT CREW 4WD 5.4 (4 spd)
0-60 8.3 @ 85 mph
1/4 mile 16.4
MPG 9/20
Curb weight 5,690

Dodge Ram 1500 CREW 4WD HEMI (5 spd)
0-60 7.7
1/4 mile 16.1 @ 87mph
MPG 8/17
Curb Weight 5,300

Nissan Titan SE CREW 4WD 5.6 (5 spd)
0-60 7.3
1/4 mile 16.0 @88 mph
MPG 9/18
Curb Weight 5,380

Chevy Silverado 1500 CREW Z71 4WD 5.3 (4 spd)
0-60 8.7
1/4 mile 16.6 @86 mph
MPG 10/19
Curb Weight 5,300

I find these #'s interesting because the Ford weighs 300lbs more than these other three trucks and the numbers are not far off. Every 100lbs lost is approx. a 1/10 sec off the 1/4 mile time so if the ford lost the 300lbs it would just about tie the Dodge and Nissan! Also notice that the 2 trucks with the 4spds (Ford and Chevy) ran much slower 0-60 but caught up in the 1/4 mile (at least the Ford did).
What do I get from this whole thing? With my Superchips Microtuner I should beat (or at least tie) the three stock trucks listed here in the 1/4 mile!
I also think its interesting that they got 20mpg on the highway with the F-150! I can't even come close!
Anyway, I can't sleep so shoot me now and make me stop typing!

since i too am not sleeping yet...
I used a calculator to estimates horsepower based on vehicle weight and best ET. I added 200# for a driver.

the ford 234.5hp @ wheels 276.7@ flywheel
dodge 231.4hp.................... 273.1hp
nissan 239.2hp.................... 282.3
chevy 211.1hp.................... 249.1hp

Just curious, but has anyone made any runs down the 1/4 with their f150 4wd scab or screw w/5.4?
I've used my old g-tech to compare it to my 2000 F150 scab w/5.4 and the 04' was at least a full second faster (even though it felt slower). The older g-tech's aren't real accurate i don't think, but it seems to be consistant. I clocked an average of 17.5s 1/4 time with the 04' when it was brand new (this is at 2500ft altitude as well, correct for sea level, might knock off about .5s)

Weight and gearing are the only issues with our trucks. I was in the mid 15 second range bone stock based on my 1/8th mile times.

Now I am well into the 14's after all of my mods. If you put a 5 speed tranny and lower gears in our trucks we would run much better.

Yes, with your Superchips tuner and an intake you should actually be in the mid 15's in the 1/4. This does depend on what gears you have and how big your tires are.

BTW, the parasitic loss through the drivetrain on the other vehicles is much more than ours. I dyno'd 262HP and 300ft lbs TQ at the wheels with just an intake, tuner and exhaust and that was in 85 degree weather with 85% humidity.

Yes, I ran my tank down the track. SCab Lariat 4WD on stock 32" tall Goodyears. The truck went a 15.31@88.67 with a 2.197 60ft. That was with the following mods...

4.56 gears
Airaid full intake
Magnaflow catback
ASP underdrive pulleys
synthetic exhaust

Here's a link to the timeslip... Da Tank

I think those numbers are a tad off. I know most guys with scab or crewcab Titans are going mid to low 15s bone stock....even the 4WDs. I have also seen Car and Drivers test of the trucks that resulted in 17.0 in a crew cab lariat and high 15s for the equally equipped titan, and low to mid 16s from the hemi.

The only time that counts is at your local red light when you’re lined up against another truck. I’ve dusted a few since I got the Xcalibrator.

I am pretty convinced that this truck gets quicker and more responsive as it breaks in. I have 37k miles on mine and it has very good performance. I topped it off by adding the SC 1714 which has made a huge difference off the line. I am not a racer, but I like the feeling of hitting the accelerator and lifting off.

I think this is very true. My truck is noticeably quicker than when it was brand new. These engines/drivetrains must be prettty tight out of the factory. I'm using regular unleaded with no mods.

I seen a big improvement on my towing after I got my first 3,000 miles on it. Hope the next 3,000 are even better.
