Range of Key Fob

The range of the key fob on my 05 is way shorter then my 01.

I use to be able to hit the button and be over 100 feet away and it would work. The 05 heck I have to be within 50 feet or closer.

Anyone else notice this??

Look in the owners manual, lots of good stuff in there. Manual states 33 feet. I find that sometimes it is less than 10 feet.It depends on what is around the truck.

Factory keyfobs blow... why can't they crank it up? Use a different frequency, something! My Clifford systems worked a quarter mile away if I had an open line of site... no sheet!

I wonder what the specs are on the transmitting wattage of the key fob?

Just a WAG, but ya figure it might have something to do with the increased popularity/ distribution of remote locks and the fact that there are a finite number of frequencies available for them to operate? By reducing the power/ range, they also reduce the possibility of someone walking out of the mall and unlocking 17 cars with one click.

If anyone ever breaks the codes and counterfeit FOBS become available, don't be surprised if you hear about car thieves driving around neighborhoods or mall parking lots at night clicking FOBS and looking for interior car lights coming on.

Oh, mine operates from well over 100' away. I might have to try the parking lot cruise thing just to see how many cars will unlock!

Its funny that i read this post tonight, because just a few hours ago, i was standing at least 150 feet away, probably closer to 200 and jokingly hit the unlock buttton and was shocked when my light came on. I swear, the distance was incredible. I wasent able to replicate it but that is not surprising because the range of these remotes seems to be extremely variable. On average 50 feet, but sometimes need to be withing 15, then other times...200 will do it! weird....i think alot depends on the direction you truck is facing at the time. Does anyone know were the signal is recieved in the truck?

Rocky, while keyfobs operate under similar freqencies they also have encryption codes specific to your vehicle. Your not going to unlock all the other F150's on the dealer lot with your keyfob...

Now, pump up our keyfobs Ford!!! I know you can...

My fob is extremely disappointing as well. With my 2001's fob, I could EASILY get 60+ feet. My new fobs work at a distance of about 15 feet.

Why is the range an issue? You can’t get in until you’re there anyway. I get about 30' with mine.

Best I can get is about 35'. I did however use the panic button to scare the hell out of the a-hole who parked close to me the other day. She was trying to squeeze in her door (don't know why the parked so close and made it hard on herself in the first place) and I was walking up to the truck behind them so I hit it and she jumped 10' in the air. It was funny.
