Keys cost between $65-75 because of the PATS.

It's pretty sad when I look at a key ring full of keys, and the one that looks the worst is only 3 weeks old.

This issue is getting out of hand. The keys only cost that much if the dealer programs them for you. You can do it yourself by READING the owners manual.

Some guys are getting them from ebay for between $6 and $15.

Keep your key on a seperate ring that will prevent the damage.

I have the blue logo key and it's scratched to hell and I've only had it since sept 04. I had an '03 Ranger for 16 mos, and it had the same style key, and had 90% less wear on it. Then again I'm also writing a complaint for Ford/NHTSA for my 5th warranty visit in 3 mos. First 4 were for front end alignment, this one is for ABS problems.

I might invent a bug deflector for it!! Something that would prevent it from fitting in the average dogs mouth!!

I have a big 03 Freightliner Sprinter delivery van for the buisness (I sware by this thing as far as vans go!) and it has those fancy smancy folding key thats intergrated with the remote for the door locks. I want those, someone makes them and sells them for under $50 and Ill gladly get 2 of them.

I could care less about the wear-and-tear my keys take. What I would have liked to have seen Ford do is integrate the key fob into the key, so that you only have one item that controls everything. The extra pocket space would be nice! Dodge has keys like this (parents Caravan), and I think Chevy does as well. Step up to the plate Big Blue!
