2004 F-150 Lemons
2004 F-150 Lemons
I guess it's since I go to this site quite a bit and I really haven't found other truck websites yet, but I'm scared that the chances of having a whole bunch of problems is pretty high with the 2004 F-150.
What are the main problems with the trucks and what if anything can I notice at the dealer?

There are no problems. Take it out for a spin before you sign the papers and if it sounds quiet, feels good and makes no odd noises then buy it. It's that easy. Your chances are very very LOW having issues with this truck. If 40 guys posting how much they hate this truck scares you, then by all means enjoy your GM/Dodge/Nissan. Good luck with the quality and refinement of those products.
Go to any website like this and you are going to hear about problems. Its the nature of the beast, and actually a good platform for sharing info.
Many of us here were aware of the l.s. clutch pack problem before most dealers were because of the forum.
But, you need to keep it all in perspective. You know, the squeeky wheel gets the oil.
Go over to a Mercedes site, a BMW site, whatever and you will hear about problems (the perfect vehicle has thus far evaded everybody).
After I test drove my FX4 I bought it and had it home 3 hours later. I have not once regretted that decision in any way. In fact, this has been one of the BEST vehicles I have owned (and its a long and distinguished list, trust me).

Don't get me wrong. Ford makes the best truck in the world, and with the new 2004 F-150, they have only gotten better. My gf and I have games every day on who sees the most new F-150's until I see one in the front yard of the house.
It is the truck of trucks to me. I just wanted to know about anything special I should look at. I was at a dealership in another city last month and I noticed that a truck had this weird sound when Idling, really a lot louder than the 97 F-150 I'm driving now. Both the 5.4 and 4.6 made the sounds. It's odd though because I've never heard those sounds from the trucks in the city I lived in. I think they were modding them a bit because they even had a bunch of decals and stuff on them. But at the time just looking around.
I also want to test out that '05 Mustang for the fun of it.

Looks like the biggest problem is the vibration. They are buying back trucks frequently due to this problem. My truck is very unstable when carrying a load. Also, they have brake issues but have replaced the old rotors and brake pads with newer ones.
It's too bad on this site that you have the loyalists that can't see through the haze.
My old Fords have been great but I can't even stand to drive my 2004 SuperScrewed.

Do you want the vast majority of us that have no vibration problem to pretend we do?
Get over it, you are the minority. If you don't like the truck, trade it in and buy something else.
Here's something to do.
Go to other boards for the Chevy people, and the Dodge people, and the Rice Grinder boards too. You'll see about the same thing you're seeing here. There are usually large amounts of 2 types of new vehicle owners that post on all related boards.
One group is the people who just bought a new vehicle, and want to tell everyone they can because they're proud of the thing, and there aren't enough people directly around them that want to share in all the hoopla.
The other group is the people that unfortunately got a problem new vehicle, and they want to complain to the largest crowd they can, and know that there are others that are getting hosed also. That's where online forums come in handy. It makes them feel better to know that they are not alone. Since this board has so many people, it's just natural that those with problems are going to migrate and post here, and you are going to think that there is a nationwide pandemic of bad F-150s. I know several people who have the 04s, like myself, and none of us have had any problems whatsoever. I don't know of anyone personally that has had any problems.
So just take the truck for a long test drive before you buy it, and keep in mind the problems that have been noted at this forum, and make sure that you don't find any reasons to suspect that the truck you are interested has the early signs.
These trucks rock!!

I'm surprised that you know nothing of my history. You have no compassion. Ford won't fix my truck because there is no fix for it. Trading it in would be incredibly stupid. If the DSB doesn't force Ford to do the right thing and buy it back the I will have to use my lawyer. Of course I will buy something else and it won't be a Ford.

My truck has good vibes!
zeus, get over your fine self. If I had the money, I'd buy your truck just to shut you up. If Ford insists there is nothing wrong with it, then trade the dam thing for full market value and move on. If you insist on dragging this thing out then at least have the decency to allow us some peace.
No one has ever disputed that you have a problem with your truck. We can all agree that you have some sort of vibration. FINE! Either fix it or sell it or shove it up your a....
Just DO IT, for Pete's sake and quit destroying every forum you join!

I have a '04 Reg. cab FX4. It is going back to the dealer in the morning so they can listen to the differential howl. The noise is back. Clutch pack, ring, pinion, etc. was replaced 5000 miles ago. Also the noise in the slider is back. My dealer wants to make it right and I have no doubt they will. I like the truck and see these things as minor problems. I also own a '03 Lightning, and '01 Mountaineer. My next vehicle will be a Ford Explorer or F-150, or Ford something. I've owned other makes of vehicles, but am a Ford guy now. Probably forever! I have a great salesman and he goes to bat for me with the service guys. I will admit, it probably helps that I have bought 7 or 8 vehicles from him.
