Assembly Plant Question

I am looking at purchasing a new 04 FX4. There are two with exactly the same options, one was built in Kansas City and one was built in Dearborn. Are there any quality differences between the two plants?

KC has been making F150s for many years. Dearborn has only been making them for 2 yrs

Dearborn is new and "state of the art" but KC has had more practice. I would lean toward more practice. Mine was built in Norfolk, VA where they have been building pickups there since 1948 and they built me a good truck.

Thoroughly test drive both trucks then pick one. My truck was built in Kansas City and it’s perfect.

I would go over them with a fine tooth comb, drive them, and compare. Look very carefully for small scratches and fit issues. Most importantly, drive the two and see. Research this forum so you know exactly what to look for (misterious dents in the body panels, rattling under dash, vibrations, etc.). Both plants are good, so I would base your decision on your gut feelings after driving/looking at the trucks. The plants are probably both very good. Like osbornk, my XLT is from Norfolk and it's great!

I have some friends who work at the Norfolk plant. They're some great folks out there! Even helped me get a great deal on my '05 Lariat Supercrew

My truck was built in Kansas City and it's one sweet machine! I don't think you can go wrong with a truck built at any of these assembly plants.

My FX4 was built in Dearborn and I have had no problems! I would look at the build dates, and buy the newer of the two, but to chose one or the other because of the city it was built in doesn't make much sense to me. You can have any type of any given circumstances occur or not occur at either plant.

Hey Screwbuilder - can you give me updates on the status of my truck while it's being built? It would be very cool to even get pic updates for the crowd!

Let me know.

Thanks,
Chris

Ok, now ya got me curious.

Could you make yourself a new identity, and come back and give me the low down? I mean, you can't just say it does matter, and then not say how!! Are there GM scoundrels secretly infiltrating the Dearborn facility and sneaking bad parts onto my truck? Is Dearborn really a front for a secret alien society that are storing their radio-active materials in my truck in the form of "Quiet Steel"? Are the people that built my truck tightening bolts to 85 inch pounds instead of 85 foot pounds? Do the Zero Population people own that plant, and therefore, I can expect my truck to explode and kill me at 50K because of a code they implanted into my computer?

What is it
