qestions about towing

Hello-
I have a 04 super crew larait 4x4 5.4 3:73 rearend with an AutoSpring 2 inch leveling kit. I am purchasing a Jayco 30' travel trailer that weighs 7300 pds unloaded. I has a tongue weight of about 850 pds. The trailer will have a weight distribution hitch and sway control.
My question is: Will this cause the truck to squat to much to safely tow? Should I remove the leveling kit from the front end to the truck?
Thanks
Tinman

Look in my gallery. I dont have the leveling kit installed in that picture but the boat and trailer is about 9500#'s. Assuming about 1000# tongue weight and no extras aside from the factory tow package that is what it looks like. Drives/stops fine, but no speed records. Any other questions hope I can help. I think you would be fine with the kit on there.

I'm not smart, but I'd say your gonna have a saggy **** on that truck. Time for an air bag auto level setup...

If you use a weight distributing hitch properly, you can keep the truck level regardless of the weight of the towed trailer. If you're basing the unloaded weight on the advertised weight, it will be low. The listed weight is for the base trailer and the actual weight will be 400-700 pounds more once normal options are added. The actual weight with options (but not propane, water, personal items, etc) is normally listed on the inside of a cabinet door (usually over or near the stove). The best way is to have it weighted.

Have you hooked the boat up since installing the leveling kit?

Any Pics?

Tin,
This is what we did to my father-in-laws 04 Lariet, he pulls a 29' Heavy TT with a slideout.
Leave the leveling kit on it, but the stock suspension has a hard time not squatting with that much tounge weight on it. So Install the Firestone "sport ride" air bags ($190 from suspensionconnection.com) these will give you 3k load capability if you pump them all the way up, but you wont have to for 1k tounge wt. ( Then deflate to 5psi for a smooth stock ride when MT ). Also install the cool brake controller, Prodigy, by Tekonsha ($99- rvwholesalers.com) a digital stateof the art unit to control your WHOA power.
No problem towing with the new F150 and the 5.4 with the superchips towing setting gives alot of power.

However its no match for the 6.0 diesel F250, now THAT is a tow rig!

Thanks Everyone-
I think the air bags are the answer I was looking for. I didn't know they were that inexpensive. I have looked at the Load Springs and did not want to use them, thinking that they might stiffen up the unloaded ride. I have the Prodigy brake controller and it works great.
I have a small farm and use the truck to pull a kubota L3830 4x4 tractor with a bush hog, front end loader and 18ft trailer. It pulls it great but does sag the rear. It pulls it great.

I think the air bags will be the way to go.
