Question Has anyone tried the new Hypertech 41043.

Christmas and my B-day coming up and am thinking about getting a tuner. I have used Hypertech in the past on my Tahoe, and liked it. I haved looked at the superchips tuners, but a few people are having some harsh shifts. Wife is not going to be pleased with harsh shifts. Anyway I was looking for some feedback to see if anyone had tried it. Here is a link to the dyno sheet. It also says that it will read and clear DTC's. I am thinking about getting the Volant with the extension tube, just in case it trips a code this feature may come in handy.

Dyno Sheet

Thanks,
Adam

Do a search in the “Computer Chip” forum, there’s several comparison threads that might help answer your questions about the two different tuners. You should do some research on intakes too, because some of the ones on the market for the 04 3-valve don’t work well and can cause the engine to run as lean as A/F 19:1, that’s trouble, big time.

As someone who has a Superchips Microtuner(1714) I speak from experience. The thing does what it is suppose to. I have the shift pressure backed off to 12 psi above stock(running the 91 oct. performance tune) and the shifts are smooth. The harsh shift issue seems to be pretty scarce. It may not even be related to the tuner. Just my two centavos...Kevin

I was going to post this in the Chips forum, however none of the users I could find in there had tried one on the 3valve 5.4. Plus when I search Hypertech in the chips forum it kept bring back the superchips ditributor tellling someone how bad the hypertech is. I know that their custom tune will probably blow away a standard hypertech or he even said a standard superchip tuner. Unfourtanately I would prefer to have a standard unit.

Just my .02, any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam

Adam,
I know that there are some around here using Diablo tuners. The Hypertech tuner must have just came out. You might have to be the guneau pig on that one.
On the Superchips note, All I was trying to say is that I have been very pleased. Good luck. Whatever you do I hope it makes your ride more fun to own and drive than it already is...Kevin

1714

The 1714 is the first and only tuner I've ever used, but maybe I can at least share my good experience with you. The thing is super easy to use, and very customizable. You can custom set all of your shift points, and shift pressure, etc. My friend owns his own performance shop, and was not very familiar with the Superchips tuners, and he installed one on a guys truck and he was commenting to me about how much more customizable than other tuners he was familiar with, and he said that the Superchips tuners would be the first one he would recommend from there on out.

Hypertech

Just tried mine, and really like it. Set the program with 91 octane, and can tell a difference.

Got it for $310.15 w/ free shipping. Here's the link:

Nothing is going to match the gains you’ll get with the Xcalibrator. It’s custom tuned specifically for your trucks PCM code. The out of the box tuners use a generic tune to accommodate a large range of vehicles and varying octane ratings.
