2-piece oil dipstick?
So after checking the oil again today I just have to ask. I can't seem to find a post on this, so I apologize in advance if it's been answered before.
My curiosity is just nagging at me now, so I have to ask. Anybody else out there with an '04 or newer have a 2-piece oil dipstick? And obviously, my next question is "Why?". The only conceivable reason I can come up with is that Ford spec'd a specific dipstick length, and somehow during final engine design that length changed (shorter?). So if you're Ford and you have 100.000 dipsticks for your 5.4L engines and they are all too long what do you do? Cut them down and rivet them together at the "new" proper length? This is the first vehicle I've ever seen with a 2-piece, riveted oil dipstick. Seems odd to me...
Comments? Thoughts? Explanations?

Mine does too.
The only thing I can think of is that as a cost saving measure, the top half of the dipstick is common to all Fords and the bottom half is specific to each engine.
