Free oil changes?

I keep seeing different postings about people going to get their free oil changes @ the dealership. I have a 04 Screw that needs it's first change this weekend. Was my dealership supposed to tell me about these free oil changes, or does it just vary from dealership to dealership? Thanks, Mike

It's not a "factory" program. It's up to individual dealerships whether they offer "free" oil changes as part of the sale.

It’s a dealership thing. Some even throw in gas at cost, which equates to about 15¢ a gallon cheaper.

My dealer only gives a free oil change coupon when you return the survey back to the sales manager (good or bad).

I dropped off the truck in the morning and picked it up on my return trip from work. I had one item I wanted them to check and they fixed it... so it's was worth the trip.

Unless they give me another coupon, I will be changing my own oil.

I call and schedule the oil change. I've had it done once so far, 45 min in and out. Oil change and tire rotation, quicker than I could have done them.

A Toyota dealer around here advertised "Tires for life!" as long as you own one of their vehicles. When I bought my Focus, I didn't even get a full tank of gas. Hmph.

We give out freebie first oil changes for new owners, but I never got anything whenever I bought my last two Fords.

I've never waited a half day at the stealership for an oil change... ever.

Walk in and walk out in less than 30 minutes. Sure, it's simple to do on your own but, when the cost is around $20 and you don't have to mess with the general hassle, it's worth it to me.

I did find out that the maintenance records are worth something in a financial sense as well. Today, when I traded in my 01, they mentioned that it looked like I'd taken exceptional care of the truck. I asked what they meant and they immediately produced a list of all the work I'd ever had done on the truck at a Ford dealership (all of them). This, naturally, included oil changes etc.. I know for a fact that it helped me on the trade.

But, back OT, I got a certificate for my first freebie as well. They also promise a free rotation at 6000 or something... I'm not that worried about either but, I guess it's nice to have.

Free is free and that a good thing. My wait time is about 20 min for oil and another 20 min if I get my tires rotated; no appt. necessary.

I never got free oil changes but never bought a rig that they did not full it with gas...I get all my oil changed at my Ford dealer for both rigs...$25-29.00 CA...They keep the records in their computer ... they know me and how I like my rigs cared for...If something is getting to be a problem they fix it then...Most time they do the job under a hour without a appointment...Any Ford dealer can run my Vin # and see how I cared for my rig as well...

Should make it worth more at trade time like Rock said...

I buy my oil and filter at Advanced and go to the dealership and the do they change it for me for free, but I always give the mechanic $10 for doing it. I wouldnt crawl under and do it for $10 so to me its a hell of a deal, and on top of that I never have to waite!!!
